THE CAR rise was tense — a thick layer of silence filling the vehicle like a fog.
When they had finally arrived at the restaurant, it was almost seven, half an hour later than the two girls were supposed to meet their friends.
"Hey! What took so long—" Jessica and Angela made their way over to Sara and Bella, Jessica cutting herself off at the scene in front of her.
Jasper stood close to Sara, his arms held behind his stiff back with his jaw tense. He stared down at the girls, forcing a pained smile. Edward did the same and decided to speak, noticing his brother's expressions.
"We apologize for keeping Bella and Sara away from you — we just ran into each other in town and got to talking."
Angela smirked, her eyes locking with Sara's.
The girl was still shaken up, but she managed to send a small smile on return.
"Oh, um.. that's totally fine. We just were hungry so we already ate," Jessica replied, quickly looking between Sara and Bella apologetically.
"Well, I think we should make sure they get something to eat. We can drive them back when we're finished," Jasper spoke up, his soft voice cutting the tension.
"Yeah, alright, that's uh — totally cool. Let's go, Jessica."
Sara turned her head slightly, looking up to meet Jasper's gaze. He gave her a reassuring smile, his hand moving to rest on the small of her back to guide her into the restaurant behind Bella and Edward.
"Jasper, if you're stalking me, then just tell me. Maybe I lied — maybe I am into that shit."
They sat at a separate table away from Bella and Edward, just down a few feet. She had ordered herself from fries, rolling her eyes when Jasper had declined any food. Yeah, there was definitely something wrong with him.
Jaspers warm laugh filled the area, a smirk dancing on his lips. "No, Sara. I'm not stalking you." He paused, a teasing smile on his face. "Unless you do want me too—"
Sara couldn't keep the laugh down. "Shut up, Hale." She said through laughs, covering her mouth to try and silence the giggles. He smiled, the biggest smile she had seen him ever smile. His teeth were bright white and perfectly straight — his smile was absolutely beautiful. For once, the pain seemed to be drained from his face. He looked quite handsome.
"Okay, but I need answers." She said, taking a sip of her water. Jasper leaned back in his seat, raising his amusingly. "Go on."
"How the actual fuck did you know where Bella and I were?"
"Edward and I were down here visiting some family when they had us run to the store for some food." He paused for a minute, examining the girl's gaze before continuing. "We took a short cut to the store and caught Bella running like a maniac. She told us you were in trouble and then we came and got you."
Sara squinted at him, observing his face with a suspicious look. After a minute of silence, she huffed and rubbed her forehead.
Her hair had been ripped out of the ponytail, the knotted mess resting beneath her shoulders like a wild mane.
"Well, that'll pass, for now, Hale." She took a sip of her water, picking up a fry and chewing it.
He smirked at her remark, raising an eyebrow amusingly. He glanced over to his brother and the brunette with him, using his excellent hearing to listen on.
He stared emptily at the couple, listening as he told her he could read minds. Christ Edward, he thought to himself. Bella was so close to figuring out what they were — but Jasper knew it wouldn't end well.
He turned his attention back to Sara, sending her a small smile when she noticed he had been looking at the pair a few feet away from them.
"They're honestly cute together." Sara's voice was soft, her eyes observing the couple with triumph eyes. Jasper chuckled slightly, nodding at her words.
"They really are."
Sara could feel the tension between them, she just didn't know how to cut it. She looked at him, butterflies filling her stomach when her green eyes locked with his.
"Y'know, this is already our second date and I haven't gotten the chance to ask for your phone number," she said cheekily. He cocked a single eyebrow and smirked. "Date?"
"Yeah, cowboy, date. That's usually what it's called when you go out to eat."
"Well, in that case, ma'am, you can have my phone number so we can schedule future — dates."
She felt proud of herself as she handed him her phone, letting him input his contact for her. He slyly handed the phone back to her, smirking slightly.
"There you go, darlin'," he said, his voice soft.
She rolled her eyes, trying to push away the fluttering feeling in her stomach.
"Thank you, sir," She bit back, leaning back into her seat. He smiled, rolling his eyes.
"Let's head back now." Sara felt herself jump when she heard the voice of Edward right behind her, cursing loudly. "Fuck!" She yelled, catching the attention of other people inside the restaurant. Jasper stood, nodding towards Edward. He looked back towards Sara and she stood, following Edward, Bella, and Jasper outside of the restaurant and into the silver Volvo.
Ugh I lowkey hate this chapter but it was just a filler so it's fine. I've been stressed asf with school but I'm really happy because I dropped out of my drama class and got a free period, so now basically all of my stress is gone :)
I hope to update at least twice this weekend!Leave some feedback, please!
