"Hey! We found the Hutt!" Kayla heard Ahsoka shout, the teen turning away from Rex and saw Ahsoka and Anakin approach with the baby Hutt in the Padawan's arms. "Alright, well, that's one thing off the checklist. But we also have another situation."
"What's up?" Anakin asked as Kayla and Rex looked at each other. "The girl we saved at the monastery? Violet? She's telling the truth. She's not working with Ventress."
"How do you know?" Anakin asked. "She was attacked by Darth Sidious. Same thing as me when I first came here. Sidious wouldn't attack anyone randomly that just got here without any motive." Kayla explained, looking to Violet who was nearby talking to another trooper, probably asking him questions.
"What do you mean, just got here?"
"She's trapped in her own dream. She just got here a few hours ago." Kayla said, Anakin furrowing his eyebrows. "That's strange. You came from a portal. How can she be trapped here through a dream?"
"I don't know. But we'll have to deal with this later. We don't have a lot of time. We need to get the Hutt back to Tatooine before its too late." Kayla informed, Anakin looking to Ahsoka. "Right! Okay, let's contact Obi-Wan and let him know what's going on." ---
"We found the Hutt, Obi-Wan. He's safe for now, but we have two problems." Kayla explained while talking to Obi-Wan via transmission. : What is it? :
"The Huttlet is sick and we're trying to keep the fever down, but nothing's working. And we also found a girl. She's a Nightsister, but she just arrived here a few hours ago, similar to me, but through her dreams. I thought at first she was working with Ventress, but she was just attacked by Darth Sidious." Kayla explained, Obi-Wan stroking his beard. : Interesting. And you're sure she's not working with Ventress? :
"Yes, I'm sure. Sidious wouldn't attack any newcomers for no reason unless he had a motive." Kayla replied, Obi-Wan looking intensely at her as she spoke. : You seem distressed..are you alright? :
Kayla looked from the ground to Obi-Wan's hologram and she sighed, shaking her head. "When I got here after leaving you on Tatooine, I got this weird feeling. Like someone was here and they were angry and violent. My blood went cold all of a sudden. I don't know if it has anything to do with the girl, but I don't think we're alone. I think whoever I was sensing is working with Ventress and used the girl as a decoy."
: That or the girl is the person you were sensing. : Obi-Wan suggested, Kayla shaking her head vigorously. "No, I was in her head, Obi-Wan. When she started seizing and I went into her head to pull her out, I saw how scared she was. I saw the pain she was suffering. She's not working with Ventress."
: Kayla, you know you're not suppose to go into anyone's mind. You could have rip hers apart if you stayed any longer. : Obi-Wan scolded, Kayla lowering her gaze. "I know. But I had to do something or Sidious would have killed her. Its just...an instinct."
: I understand. But until you learn how to control your abilities, you cannot enter anyone else's mind. You could kill them, too. : Obi-Wan is right, she thought. Her mind is too powerful for her to enter another's. They wouldn't handle it, not like she can. She nodded in understanding, taking her gaze back up to Obi-Wan. : Kayla, not everyone is meant to be saved. That's the hardship of war. And sometimes, you have to make the difficult decision to let go. :
And that was the hardest thing to hear. She came through the portal hoping to change the script a bit by saving the ones that she needed to. But this statement alone had her world crumbling. This was what she was afraid of. Its what anyone would be afraid of.
And as Cody said before, its hard to admit when someone is afraid. And she was afraid. 100 percent.
Shouts from Rex interrupted her and Obi-Wan's converstaion and she quickly looked in his direction, seeing that he had pointed out something. "Oh, shoot.." She mumbled seeing an entire platoon of droids heading towards them, along with some of their ships.
: What is it, Kayla? What's going on? : Obi-Wan asked frantically. "Droids. I contact you back when we're to safety." Kayla assured, turning off her transmitter and lighting up her blade.
"Kayla! Get Ahsoka and Violet inside now!" She heard, turning to see Anakin, with his lightsaber in hand and ignited, and Ahsoka hot on his heel and Violet walking towards her from the other side. "But, Anakin-"
"Just go! We'll be fine!" Anakin insisted, Kayla looking to Ahsoka. "Okay. Come on, guys." Kayla grabbed Ahsoka's hand, the three girls sprinting past some troopers to get back inside the monastery. Kayla looked back a couple times, seeing Anakin and Rex fight off some droids, but she soon saw them run in her direction as they were now outnumbered.
"Come on! Hurry!" Kayla shouted as soon as they got to the entrance. Rex and Anakin had made it through the door and more troopers were coming through. One was shot in the leg and he fell to the ground, yelling in pain.
"No!" Kayla ran towards the trooper, ignoring the calls of Ahsoka, Violet, and Anakin calling her back. She got to the trooper, igniting one of her blades and deflecting shots as she helped the trooper to his feet. "I got you! Come on!"
She didn't want to rush and cause more damage to his leg, but she had to get him through the door. And in good timing, too. The doors to the monastery had just closed and Kayla sighed in relief when they made it through.
"What were you thinking?! You could have been killed!" Kayla heard Anakin exclaim, Kayla handing the trooper to Kix, the medic, as he did.
"I'm sorry, but I thought I was saving a man's life here." Kayla retorted, glaring slightly. "And, in the process, could have gotten you killed?!"
"Like I told Sidious, I would lay my life down for these men. Even for a wounded. Because that's the kind of person I am. And now is not the time for me to explain myself. We have to get this Hutt off this planet and back to Tatooine before its too late." Kayla reminded, looking back towards Ahsoka, who looked uncertain and worried about where the conversation was about to go prior.
"Kayla's right, Master. We don't have time. We need to go." Ahsoka pleaded, Kayla looking from her to Anakin. "Anakin, find yourself a ship and get Violet, Ahsoka and the Hutt to Tatooine. Rex, myself, and the others will buy you guys some time."
"No, we're not leaving you here with the droids!" Violet exclaimed, Kayla holding up her hand. "This isn't up for debate, Violet. You guys have to go now." Anakin looked from Kayla to Ahsoka, sighing in defeat.
"Be careful, okay?"
"You too. The three of you. Now, go." Ahsoka, Violet, and Anakin left the room, Kayla watching in anxiousness as they disappeared out of her sight. She knew they would be okay, especially Ahsoka and Anakin, but she was still worry something's going to go wrong.
"You okay?" She heard, turning around and seeing Rex, though he had his helmet on, she could sense his concern. "I'm fine, I just..hope I'm doing the right thing here."
