The crazy kids

When we arrived back at base, I was eager to find Ahsoka and Anakin and tell them what had happened. Fortunately, I found them talking with Obi-Wan and Yoda off to the side, but I didn't want to disturb them, so I walked off into the main hangar, looking for Rex, Cody and the others. They had disappeared earlier into the base and that left me with trying to find them again.

While walking through the hallway towards the main hangar, I got that feeling again. Like something is going to happen. "Oh, come on, not again.." I mumbled, trying to push that feeling aside, but of course it didn't.

"Great..now I'm going to be paranoid for the rest of the day." I said, cursing quietly and entering the main hangar. I spotted some troopers nearby and sighed in relief spotting Rex and Cody with them.

As if on cue, the moment they heard my footsteps, they turned and all of them started cheering like I just won a marathon or something. One by one, they all came and patted me on my shoulder or my back, and honestly, I felt good about it. The only time anyone has ever made me feel good about what we accomplish was my friend back home when we got an A on a huge project in class. Our parents cheered us on and everything and we both felt good that we were able to accomplish something so big and major.

I stopped in front of Rex and Cody, both of them nodding to me with a proud smile. "Great work, kid. You would make one hell of a Commander one day." Cody complimented, throwing a hand on my shoulder.

"Thanks, Cody. But really, I should be saying great work to you guys. I couldn't have done it without you." I replied, speaking to the entire group.

"So, what happened? When you went to rescue General Kenobi?" One trooper asked and I looked to Rex, he nodded to me as if telling to go ahead and tell the story. I smiled, turning back to the men and began telling the story.
----

"...you should have seen the guy's face! I must have looked really scary because he went pale in like a second!" Ahsoka heard as she approached the men who were surrounding Kayla. She heard them laugh and she looked to Kayla just as she made eye contact with her.

"Hey, Ahsoka!" Ahsoka waved and all of a sudden, again as if on cue, the men cheered her on. She knew that Ahsoka and Anakin went to take the shield generator down, and they did, and felt that they deserved the appreciation too. While the men talked with Ahsoka and asked her questions about what happened, Kayla walked away, hoping to get some rest since she hadn't heard anything on the Tatooine mission yet.

However, she wasn't expecting to hear her name called. She turned, seeing Rex coming up behind me and she smiled, upon seeing him. "Hey, Rex."

"Hey. You left in a hurry." He said, walking beside Kayla with his helmet tucked under his arm. "Sorry. I just wanted to rest a bit in case we had something else to do."

"Understandable. You've earned it, really. You did great today." Rex assured, herself blushing and looked away, smiling to the ground. "Thanks, Rex. I..really appreciate it."

"Of course.." They both walked in awkward silence again, but it was cut off by Kayla's commlink going off, both her and Rex looking down at it as Kayla answered. "What's going on, Obi-Wan?"

: Kayla, I need you and your astromech to meet me in the hangar bay. We're going to Jabba the Hutt's palace. : Obi-Wan said, Kayla looking at Rex and then back at her commlink. "Okay, I'm on my way." She sighed, looking at Rex with an awkward smile.

"I guess I'll be seeing you later, then." She said, a little sad that she wouldn't join Rex on the mission to get Jabba's son, but she knew she join him later. "Yeah. Um..you will. Be..safe."

Kayla blushed again, her face growing hot by the second as she nodded quickly. "Yeah, y-you too." She quickly walked away, not wanting to embarrass herself even more and headed straight for the main hangar. Rex watched, letting out a breath he didn't know he was holding and walked back towards the main hangar as well, looking for Anakin to find out what's going on.
----

"Hey, you! I've been looking for you! Where have you been?" I exclaimed seeing Abbey wheeling towards me. She beeped, telling me she was with Anakin, Ahsoka, and Anakin's astromech, Artoo. I smirked uponing hear Artoo and looked away, snickering. A hard bump on my calf made hiss in pain.

"Ow! What?!" I shouted, rubbing my leg while Abbey snarled at me. "Hey! Hey! Hey! Watch your language!" Abbey retorted something back, making me roll my eyes and shook my head. "I love you, but you're crazy, girl. You are."

"Good, you're both here." I looked from Abbey, seeing Obi-Wan approach, a serious look on his face. "Obi-Wan. So, Jabba's place, huh?"

"Yes. His son has been kidnapped and I plan to negotiate with Jabba to allow access to the routes of the Outer Rim." Obi-Wan explained while I nodded, looking to Abbey. "Well, problem is, I can't pilot a fighter. I never learned."

"Which is why your astromech will guide you. I can teach you later, for now, we must hurry if we're to rescue Jabba's son."

"Of course. I'm ready."
----

"Kid!" I heard, turning around just as I settled down in the spare fighter they had at base. I looked down, seeing Cody approach with something in his hand. "Hey, what's that?"

"General Kenobi felt you needed it." Cody said while passing what he had in his hand to me. I took it, finally realizing it was a poncho-like cloak. It was grey and was a little tattered, but it was perfect. I smiled, looking back at Cody and nodded. "Thanks, Cody. I'll be seeing you soon."

"You got it, kid. Good luck." He replied, stepping back as my visor went down. I looked away, smiling to myself realizing that this isn't as bad as I thought it would be.
