one of the most frequently asked questions i get from people on wattpad and youtube, besides things like "what do you use to draw" and "are you a boy or a girl" and "why do you keep doing this stuff if it hurts you so much"

is the age old

"what's it like to be a youtuber/writer on wattpad"

ohohohohoho

lemme tell you

jk it's not time for a sob story today

but i get this question a lot

and the answer is basically... it's nice, because there's so many people that look up to you and like what you create

but it's also not nice, because so many people look up to you and like what you create

sometimes i get messages from people, that say i'm an inspiration, that i'm part of what makes them want to keep going at whatever they're doing, that my stories are powerful or that my videos are hilarious

it's

terrifying

because i guess a part of me still thinks that i don't deserve all the praise that i get

and part of the reason i stopped doing art classes was because people thought of me as a teacher

and... well i'm not

i'm just a person

if you want to become more well known, here's a couple tips

i can't tell you how to become well known because i kinda just kept doing stuff i liked and people started liking it too

but i can show some things that you need to prepare for once you get there

1- get used to people talking about you in the third person all the fcking time. once you start getting more people who know your stuff, everyone starts to assume that you're too busy to check the comments or messages, and therefore just talks to everyone else in the comments or to themselves

2- get used to people being surprised when you reply. you don't know how many hate comments i've got that once i respond, they start profusely apologizing, not realizing i actually saw the comment. it made me realize that none of this is personal- they're projecting their annoyance, or their hurt, onto you, but you don't have to take it. it doesn't seem like most of them even realize that the youtubers check the comments, so it feels less directed at me.

3- get a thicc skin. i'm still working on this one, but once you get people who like your stuff, there are people who hate it more than anything. there will always be that one person who doesn't like any of the jokes, who doesn't get the satire and takes everything too seriously, who just wants to crap on something, anything about your video because they wish they could make something like you did.

no matter what people say about it, if you like what you created, go ahead and put it out there. and if you can, take the positive comments to heart.

above all, if you're anything like me, remember this.

you are more than what other people think of what you create.
