Chapter 2

The Woods That Tell a Secret

It was one A.M. and I was sitting at my window trying to tire myself out by boredom but it wasn't working. I couldn't get my mind off Jake. It was as if he had been branded into my mind. I kept trying to push him out but it just wasn't working. Finally I decided to go for a walk. I threw on my leather jacket and black converse and walked outside into the bitter cold night air. It was the middle of October and the nights were getting colder. But tonight was different it was bitter and the air held a certain feeling of betrayal. After walked a few blocks I stepped off the side walk and into the woods. I felt like I was being followed but I didn't mind. I knew I could handle it if someone dared to threaten me. As I continued walking I came to a clearing. In the middle of this clearing there was a large lake it was beautiful and the moon reflected off of it bouncing light over the entire clearing. There was something about this place though, it smelled strange. I sniffed the air to realize it was lilies. The entire clearing was drenched in the scent of lilies which was extremely strange considering it was October lilies should have died by now. I approached the lake only to be stopped by a hand wrapping around my arm and spinning me around to face the mystery person. I was shocked to see Jake. He held me close to me his breath was freezing on my face but his grip was hot and seemed to send a burning sensation over my arm even through the leather of my jacket. "What are you doing here?!" His words sounded hateful but there was something else under his voice that I could quite place. "I just went for a...walk.” He looked up past me and I gasped. The moon had reflected off his eyes revealing that those deep black eyes were truly deep emerald green. He looked back down at me. "Did you follow me?" I shook my head no. "Leave now, go home or so help me I'll kill you." I was shocked. "No you wont don't try to scare me it won’t work." He looked angered by my words. "Look, I hate your guts so don't tempt me. I can be a lot scarier." His voice was low and menacing. It was then that I heard the click of a switch blade. "Like I said don't tempt me." The entire time he was talking to me his grip on my arm had been tightening and now it was sending a dull numbing pain up my entire arm. With out warning he pushed me away from him. All I could do was run away from him. I ran blindly through the woods getting my body ripped at by throne bushes and low branches. When I finally got home I was a bloody mess. I ripped my jacket and shoes off and flopped onto my bed I didn't even bother changing out of my muddy and bloody clothes. It only took me moments to fall into a troubled sleep.
