Coming out of the shower, Gulf wore the clothes that Mew had prepared for him. Chopper excitedly bounded to Gulf, pawing at his feet.

Gulf giggled, picking Chopper up in his arms. Chopper lapped at Gulf's face, causing Gulf to whine that he needs to wash his face again. Despite Gulf's whine, anyone can see that he is not really annoyed, spots of gold dancing in his irises.

Mew's heart tugged at the sight, his eyes softening.

Noticing that Gulf's hair is dripping wet, Mew shook his head and sat Gulf on the edge of his bed.

"Still a kid..."

Standing in front of Gulf, he used a hairdryer to dry Gulf's hair. The heat from the hairdryer and Mew's hands gently raking his hair made Gulf drowsy, his head nodding off now and then.

"I have ordered the food already, so just wait for a while. You can tour the place as you wait if you are bored." Mew said as he swished the hairdryer side to side, preventing the heat from hurting Gulf's ears.

Hearing the word "food", Gulf's eyes opened immediately.

"Food!"

After Mew dried his hair, Gulf tossed and turned in Mew's bed excitedly. Unable to hide his flee for food.

Seeing Gulf in a state of feverish anticipation, Mew laughed. Grabbing his clothes, he went into the shower.

---

Gulf walked around Mew's house, the soft pitter patter of tiny paws beside him.

From each detail, Gulf learnt more about Mew.

For example, there is a simple wooden picture frame on his bedside table. The picture was of Mew, an elderly woman and a man who looks to be nearly the same age as Mew. Seeing how natural his smile is, Gulf could tell that Mew loves and treasures them a lot.

Another detail is Mew's love for books. Looking at the library that he stumbled upon, Gulf couldn't help but be in awe of the vast collection of books Mew has.

You know how dust are collected everywhere in some libraries, spider webs woven loosely around books and dirtied shelves?

You know how dust are collected everywhere in some libraries, spider webs woven loosely around books and dirtied shelves?

His is the exact opposite.

Row after row of neatly lined up books with their spines facing outward, not a single speck of dust covering any of the books. Although there is the occasional pile of books lying around the corner, none are damaged, all still in pristine condition. Perhaps he was using it for research or leisure and hasn't finished, thus putting it aside to save the hassle of finding it again.

Gulf slowly walked along the rows of bookshelves, his fingers trailing across the binders of the books.

Some were even first edition! He even had some of the last works of famous literary figures!

As Gulf browsed the different books, he came across a familiar book. A book that he had studied for five years. A book that was once filled with tabs, highlighted texts and scribbled notes.

It was an Oxford handbook of cardiology by Punit S. Ramrakha.

Gulf hesitantly took the book from the shelf, flashes of that day haunting his mind. They came like punches, fast, leaving him breathless.

Flipping through the pages, Gulf's hands trembled.

Taking deep breaths, Gulf placed the book back in its original place.

"Here you are Gulf, I was looking for you. The food has arrived." Mew said as he approached Gulf.

He was about to hug Gulf from behind but Gulf had already rushed out at the mention of food.

At least I know his weakness. Food. I need to know whatever I can use to appease him if he were to get angry.

After Gulf left the library, Mew noticed a book not aligned from the rest of the books. It was the Oxford handbook of cardiology. This must have been the book that Gulf picked up earlier.

When Mew saw him pick the book up, he saw something solemn swimming in Gulf's eyes. Their stunning, brown eyes held an outpour of grief that his face could not hide. The despairing chill that they conveyed made Mew feel heartbroken. Mew looked away; I couldn't bear it.

It was only after Mew saw Gulf compose himself that he approached Gulf.

Everyone has their own story that is only known to themselves.

He doesn't have to share it with me, but if he wants to and is just not ready, I will wait until he is comfortable to tell me. He is worth the wait and I will always be there for him.
