I felt like a huge burden had just been lifted off my chest. Just seeing Ponsi's face standing before me had some kind of calming sensation with it. That must be one of the great mysteries of the Earth, why some people's presences can just calm you down when you don't even know you're strung thin.
"It really is you, Cal!" He exclaimed, almost in tears. "I can't believe it!" He hurried the remaining distance between us and threw his arms around my neck and pulled me into a bone crushing hug. I bit my lip to hold back tears of happiness as I squeezed him back.
"Ponsi, how'd you find me? Why are you here?" I barely squeaked because he was hugging me so tightly.
"I come to this every year!" He smiled brightly as he released me. "Ever since film school, I've come to this because my professor told me that this was a really good festival. So I decided to go one year and I haven't missed it since."
Film school? Oh, right... He and Cubbie came to LA for film school, I almost forgot.
"That's awesome! Were you ever entered into it?" I smiled like I didn't just draw a blank on his past.
"Uh, no! I never felt like I was good enough to enter myself into this! This took some guts for you to enter." He nodded seriously.
"I didn't enter myself..." I blushed.
"What?" Ponsi's jaw dropped.
"Yeah, my professor entered me." I blushed an even deeper shade of red.
"You're in film school? No way! I see you're taking after old Ponsi, eh?"
I couldn't help but laugh at him, he's so cocky sometimes. "I guess you could say that. This movie was actually seething I threw together in about three weeks."
"That's all it took you to edit it?"
"No! That includes filming and everything."
"What? No way..."
"Yeah, it was my final project in school."
"This was your final grade?"
"Uh, yeah, I know, it's really lame."
"I actually haven't seen it..."
"You haven't?" I cried. "Ah! Damn it, Ponsi!" I started laughing.
"I'm sorry! I saw you get your awards and I thought it might be the same Calliegh Martin I knew, but you just look so different!"
"Is that good or bad?" I raised an eyebrow.
"Good, you look so much better than you did four years ago. Your scars aren't as noticeable. I don't know if it's because of your makeup, or what."
"What? They are?" I checked my arm and saw that it was still there, but wasn't as noticeable as it had been in high school. "You're right, is the one on my face still bad?"
"I can still see it, but that's probably only because I still remember what it looked like before you even got the stitches."
"Oh, god, please don't find me of that!" I laughed. Then I remembered why I was waiting here in the first place. Ashton. He was getting the car to take me home. There's no way in hell that I'm going home now, not now because Ponsi found me. I'm so sorry, Ashton, but I'm not coming back with you. "Ponsi, could you hold on a second?"
"Why?"
"I have something I need to take care of." I saw Ashton's car come around the corner. I quickly stepped away from Ponsi to make it look like we hadn't been talking. Stepping up to the curb, I heard Ponsi pretending to be on the phone. This is why I love him, he knows how to improvise.
