The days blurred together until thanksgiving break appeared without any notice. It had been five days since Crow had been seen. The boys were all worried, although George was the only one who knew the truth. Despite the fact he was worried, he never told Nick and Clay the truth about Crow and Ryan.
It was now Friday, the last day of school before break. The bell had rung and now heavy crystal droplets fell from high in the sky. The dark sky gloomed over the town, setting darkness in replace of the sun.
George had invited Clay and Nick to his house today to hang out to lighten up the mood. They agreed hesitantly since they were missing their friend.
Currently they were all sitting in uneasy quietness in George's house. The only noise was the pitter patter of rain hitting George's roof.
"So," George said breaking the silence. He always felt nervous around them since he kept lying about seeing Crow. "Does anyone want snacks or something? I also have juice."
"I just ate." Clay told him.
"No thanks." Nick said plainly.
"So no sign of Crow?" George asked grimacing. He couldn't help but to feel it was his fault because he lied to them.
"Are you sure she left alone?" Nick asked skeptically.
"Just like I told you the first day." George sighed, as he repeated the same lie he had been saying all week. "She left alone and said it was for personal reasons. She looked fine."
"This is so unlike her." Clay sighed.
"Come on guys." Nick said, standing up. "Crow can handle herself, I'm sure she's fine, she wouldn't want us sulking and being upset. She's probably having the time of her life."
Meanwhile, Crow groaned in annoyance as she glanced through her phone. It was flooded with worried messages from her friends. She realized she couldn't even answer them, which annoyed her even more.
If they knew something, Ryan would find out and take her phone. She gritted her teeth in annoyance, Ryan was really getting on her nerves. This was no brother she once knew.
She glanced towards the window as rain drizzled down. She got up and shuffled to the window. She looked down at the fall, she was nearly sure she could get down unnoticed now.
The slight echo of footsteps warned her that someone was here. She crept away from the window and sat down at her desk as someone knocked at her door.
"How are you doing in there?" Ryan's voice traveled through the door, she wished he's just stop talking.
"Just peachy." She answered dryly. "What kind of brother locks his sister up? You still telling yourself it's because I'm in some grave danger?"
"You're putting others in danger too." Ryan scoffed, "Believe it or not I'm doing this to protect you."
"Protect me?" She scoffed back. "Never seen someone protect me by shutting me off from the world."
There was another swift pause of uneasy silence. She liked that, she liked the silences between them. It meant her words were getting in that tiny skull of his.
