"Miss Grace, could you see me in my office, please?" Came from the intercom and tore my concentration away from the file I was currently proof-reading.
I swallowed a gulp of my saliva. The last time my boss called me into the office was when I got fired. History is not gonna repeat itself now, right?
I shook my head at my thoughts and straightened my pencil skirt while I smoothed out my clothing.
Okay, let's do this. I gave myself a heads up to keep myself optimistic and motivated.
When I stood in front of his office, I inhaled and exhaled before knocking on his door, "come in," sounded from inside the room and I gently pushed against the door.
"Please, take a seat, miss Grace," I did as I was told and when I saw him opening his mouth, I didn't know what came over me but I immediately started to ramble, "I'm so sorry for whatever I did! I swear I will try to be better and improve my skills! Just don't fire me, please!"
Way to go, Camille. Way to go.
I facepalmed subconsciously and slapped my hand over my mouth, "sorry, I didn't mean to cut you off. Or talk over you. Or talk in the first place at all. Sorry, I'll stop talking now."
Mr Queen looked at me in amusement while I only drowned in my own embarrassment, "miss Grace?"
Gosh, this is now the third time that I embarrassed myself in front of him! And let me guess, it's not gonna be the last time either.
"Miss Grace?"
I mean, come on! Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse I have to do this. Argh, kill me now.
"Camille," I snapped my gaze at him in surprise. Mr Queen and I have never been close enough to each other to be at the first name basis before. Is the time now? Isn't it too early though?
"Earth to Camille?" My subconscious self erased any thoughts that might pop up again, so I'll finally stop thinking but start talking instead, "y-yes, mr Queen?"
He gave me one of his million dollar smiles again that could make any woman drop their panties and looked at me with those beautiful brown-greenish eyes and- snap out of it already!
"Before we get to my topic that I wanted to talk to you about, I'll let you know that it was never my intention to fire you in the first place if that calms you down a bit," he smirked a bit after his statement.
He raised one eyebrow as if expecting an answer from me, "oh, yes, thank you...for letting me know," my voice got shallower and shallower until I was only muttering the last few words and gave him a small smile in return to let him know his remark was totally unnecessary.
Playful eyes only stared back at mine and stayed that way when he decided to come forward with his conversation, "I wanna ask you out to dinner tonight, miss Grace."
And we're back to surnames, okay.
Me thinking it was only a business dinner with one of his associates and he wanted me to be there, agreed immediately without a thought, "yeah, sure. Should I make a reservation, mr Queen?"
Surprise was eminent on his face.
What, did he expect me to decline? Hey, it's free food. Plus, he probably only wants me there for moral support anyway. I mean, I'm pretty sure mr Queen is able to bring his point across if it ever came down to his business, so I see no evident danger.
