"They had finally found the last piece of the puzzle. They just hadn't realised what it would cost them to put it into place."

Ron and Hermione were already waiting for Katherine when she caught up with them.

Ron had barely given her enough time to step away from Fred before taking hold of her wrist and pulling her further along the corridor, his movements hurried but careful as he kept them close to the walls.

"Come on."

"Ron, slow down."

"We don't have time."

Katherine glanced towards Hermione.

Hermione was walking quickly beside them, her wand already in her hand and her expression unusually focused.

"What happened?"

Neither answered immediately.

That alone made Katherine's stomach tighten.

The corridor remained almost completely deserted, which should have reassured her.

Instead, it made the whole situation feel even stranger.

The Order was still doing its job.

Somewhere beyond these walls, adults were keeping the Death Eaters occupied, creating diversions and drawing attention away from the areas where the students were moving.

That meant they still had time.

But not much.

Ron finally glanced over his shoulder.

"It's about the Horcrux."

Katherine's attention sharpened immediately.

"What about it?"

"We've got an idea."

Hermione's face was beginning to brighten despite the tension surrounding them.

"Actually, Ron has an idea."

Ron grinned.

Katherine couldn't help smiling.

"Of course he does."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means you're occasionally capable of surprising me."

"Occasionally?"

"Don't let it go to your head."

Hermione gave a quiet laugh before becoming serious again.

"We think we've found a way to destroy it."

Katherine stopped walking.

Ron and Hermione took another few steps before realising she was no longer beside them.

They turned.

Katherine stared at them.

"You've found something that can destroy the Horcrux?"

Hermione nodded.

"We think so."

Katherine hurried to catch up.

"What?"

Ron looked increasingly pleased with himself.

"Basilisk venom."

Katherine's expression fell slightly.

"The basilisk is dead."

"I know."
