The Sting
Dawn and Mako were in the station again, this time with Dawn having a temporary badge of her own, but she refused to wear the police officer uniform, making Beifong just roll her eyes, but none the less let her wear it. Dawn was looking in a mirror, pulling her shirt down slightly to see black veins spreading across her chest, with a dark spot in the center. She winced slightly, touching it as she bit her lip and wondered what the hell Korra got herself into.
"Is it true?" Asami's voice popped out as the door open and Dawn pulled her hands away from her wounds and looked at her friend.
"I'm so sorry. Your entire shipment was stolen." Mako told Asami, tucking a picture of him and Korra in his jacket.
"Without that sale, I don't know how much longer I can keep my company going. What am I gonna do?" Asami asked the two, making Dawm frowned.
"It's going to be okay, Asami. We will figure something out." Dawn tried to say while the girl frowned even more.
"Don't worry. I'm gonna find whoever's responsible. Chief Beifong is about to question the captain of the ship." Mako said while pressing the speaker button to allow them to hear what they were saying.
"I know it's been a long day, but walk me through what happened." Beifong questioned as she listened closely, Dawn watching the captain.
"We were ambushed about thirty klicks outside the harbor. We never heard them coming." The captain told her.
"This is the third attack this week. At about the same location." Beifong told the man while Lu and Gang were in the room as well.
"Yep, and smack-dab in Republic City's jurisdiction, which means another problem for us. All this stress is gonna turn old black beauty gray." Gang said while Dawn rolled her eyes.
"It's gotta be Northern Water Tribe. They're trying to stop supply lines to the South." Lu insisted while Dawn shook her head.
"How would they know?! We have evidence right in front of their faces that it's not." Dawn muttered.
"I agree. Is there anything else about the attack you remember? Anything unusual?" Beifong asked the captain.
"There is one thing. The bombs exploded in a way I've never seen before. They didn't have fuses. It was like they were being detonated remotely." The captain told them.
"Like the bombs at the Cultural Center." Mako figured out and Dawn's eyes widened.
"Wait, where are you going?" Asami asked the two.
"We gotta grab some evidence." Mako said while they rushed out and Varrick walked into the room.
Mako and Dawn walked into the conversation room and Dawn grabbed the remote. "Lin, hear us out." She told her.
"I think there's a link between this attack and the attack at the Cultural Center." Mako said while handing her the box of evidence.
"What do you think you're doing?" Beifong asked angrily.
"Solving this case. Did any of the people who attacked you have one of these in their hand? I think it's a remote detonator." Mako told him.
