I can't see anything. I turn my head in all directions, it's nothing but darkness. I reach my hand out and there's nothing there. I try to scream but I can't hear anything. I tried walking forward but I can't move. I frantically start feeling around me. There's nothing here. Am I in a dream? I try pinching my arm but nothing happens.
"May...... May...... MAY!"
"May! Please, wake up!"
My head is throbbing. The only thing I can see is Leland's freightened face. I turn my head to the left and right to see I'm lying on the ground.
"May, are you ok?" Leland is holding my head up, he looks worried.
"What happened?
"You've past out for half an hour. I need to get you home." I can still smell the alcohol on his breath.
I know I need to get home. I feel so drained, I know I really need some rest.
"Leland, please help me up." He stands up and extends his hand. I stand slowly. My knees jiggle below me. I feel so weak, I'm so tired.
As Leland walks me home I tell him what I seen when I past out. I told him I also had a dream just like that, too.
"I'm not sure what it is. I'll go home and think about."
We arrive at my door and Leland pulls me into a hug. He holds me for a second. Before he left I gave him my number.
"Call me tomorrow." I said.
I don't feel drunk anymore. I know I need to get inside, though. I pull out my keys and make my way inside. I took of my shoes and set them by the door. I tried tip-toeing upstairs to my room, but it's too late. My mom walks out from the kitchen.
"It's ten 'til eleven. Did you have a good time?" She folds her arms and grins.
"Yes, mom. I had a great time." I smiled back. "I'm just tired."
Before she lets me got to bed she smells my breath and looks at my eyes. It's a good thing she didn't notice anything. I don't mind, though. I would be protective over my daughter if she went to her first party. Gosh, I love my mom. I kiss her goodnight and head upstairs to my room. It seemed as soon as I laid down I fell asleep.
"You belong with me, May. You're going to die." Paul's voice says to me. I shake my head. "No, I want Leland. I'm going to be with Leland!" I scream. "You belong with me. You're going to die." Paul's voice repeats itself over and over again. "No! I belong with Leland." I keep screaming back. Then, Leland appears in front of me. I reach out for him and I fall. I fall into a dark, black hole. I look up, and Leland is not there. There's not a bottom to this hole, I keep falling. There is no end.
I wake up gasping for breath. I'm sweating. I jump out of bed and take a hot shower. While I'm getting dressed, the doorbell rings. I try to dress as fast as I can. I hear my mom greeting whoever it is, but I can't hear their voice. Footsteps make their way up the stairs. I'm finally dressed and I step outside the bathroom. I come face to face with Leland.
"May, be good up there!" My mom shouts from downstairs.
"I'm better than that, mom!" I shouted back, laughing.
I know she's joking. She knows me better than that.
"This is my room." We walk into the room next to the bathroom, which is my bedroom. "What's up?" I close my door and sit down on the bed.
"May, we need to be more careful. That dream you had is you stuck between the real world and Oblivion. I surprised you're even alive. I've never heard of anyone doing that twice."
"So, what can we do? How can we be careful if it happens randomly?
"I don't know... I think the true answers will only come to you. I think you'll get all the answers you need from your dreams, your mind. You should start listening to yourself more, the true answers will come from you."
