(Present day)
It's 7:00 so I had to get ready for school. My name is May Jensen and I'm sixteen years old. Even though I make great grades and I'm the teacher's favorite student, I don't enjoy school. Mainly because the other teens there. I usually stay to myself. The girls are jealous and the boys want nothing to do with the quiet, nerdy girl. I don't mind, though, I don't find making friends and boyfriends really interesting.
I finally made my way through the swarm of other highschoolers to my English class. When everyone sat on their desks we started our lesson.
"Chapter 12, start reading please. Answer the questions at the end of the chapter." Mr. Keith is a cool teacher. He doesn't give me any trouble and he really likes that I'm not an annoying student.
Reading chapters and answering questions is always a piece of cake. Pretty much anything is. Not to brag or anything, I'm very thankful that I'm not one of those kids that have a hard time learning things.
There was a knock on the classroom door and a boy I had never seen entered. "I'm sorry. I'm new." He handed Mr. Keith a note and his gaze instantly landed on me. It seemed time had just stopped and we were the only ones in the room. It felt like we were staring at each other forever. Stanley.
"Excuse me." Mr. Keith interrupted. The boy shook his head and turned to the teacher. "Please, pick a seat for now. Our assignment is chapter 12, answer the questions at the end of the chapter."
Where the hell did Stanley come from? I just have a feeling that's his name, I guess. It must be, I just got such a strong vibe that he's a Stanley. I looked around the room and I was getting some sneers from a couple of girls. I turned my attention back to my work. Forget it.
For some odd reason my eyes kept looking over at him. He was sitting in the corner of the room down the aisle from me. I've never been the type of girl to have a boy grab my attention this much. Why is he doing it? I finished my work and five minutes after the bell rung.
I followed him out of the classroom and into the hallway. I just can't explain it, I'm drawn to him.
"Hey!" I called out. He quickly turned around. He was so beautiful. He stood tall and strong, with the darkest black hair, and the brightest blue eyes. His face was absolutely perfect.
"Is, uh... Your name Stanley?" I just can't explain it. Every time we look at each other time feels like it stops. His eyes flickered. "No, it's Leland." He tried to walk away, so I grabbed his shoulder. Touching him sent, like a shock through my body.
"What do you want?" Leland had an annoyed look. I know he was probably thinking "what does this dumb bitch want?" I had a feeling that I want to be around him, talk to him, be with him. "I'm sorry. I just want to talk." His eyes lightened up a little. "Look, I don't have time. Don't you have somewhere else to be?" And with that he walked away.
(After school)
I usually walk to and from school. Today was different. Leland walks from school too. My eyes were drawn to his dark hair. He was taking a path into the woods, a path I never seen anyone take. I know, I know. It's weird, I'm not a stalker or anything! I feel like I need him, though. This has to be the real deal, I've never felt this any other time.
I stayed a couple of feet behind him, watching him walk alone. The path seemed a little long and it was surrounded by a patch of woods on both sides. After a couple of minutes of dipping and dodging behind trees, I knew I was caught when he heard the crunch of leaves.
"Who's there?" Leland removed something from his pocket and walked towards me. It took me a couple of seconds to realize it was a knife in his hand. "Wait, stop! I'm sorry." I jumped out from behind the tree. "What the hell! Why are you following me?" He had a disgusted look on his face. Oh, gosh. I'm freaking him out. "I'm sorry... I just got-" He cut me off, "You got curious and wanted to know where I was going? Well, I'm going to my house."
Wow. I had nothing to say. He finished my sentence and how was I supossed to justify it anymore? "Well? Are you just going to stand there like a dummy?" Leland sure is a rude ass. "Why are you being so mean? I can't explain it," I decided to just tell him my true feelings, "I'm drawn to you. Leland, I really like you and I can't explain why." His body went from tense to slump. And for a couple of seconds we just stared at each other again.
Then he just turned around and continued walking. I followed him. "Are you just going to follow me to my house?" He called without turning back. I finally caught up with him. I had to jog to keep up. "Well, I'm not going to let you just turn away from me like you did. That's disrespectful." I had to jog even faster because he was speeding up. "It's disrespectful to stalk people." Then he started running. "Why are you making this hard on me? I said I like you!" I was running at that point too.
When he stopped I ran straight into him. He pulled me away from him and held my shoulders. There was that shocking feeling again. Leland looked directly into my eyes. "May, you're sweet but I'm not interested." Oh my gosh. "How do you know my name? I didn't tell you." I was surprised. I can't believe he knows my name! He rolled his eyes at me and started walking again. Just a couple of feet ahead was an ending of the path.
I didn't stop following him. I wasn't going to let him just push me aside. When I finally got to the end of the path, I noticed there was a house. Not a house, a mansion. It stood tall, with plain white siding, and big scenery windows. "Are you too good for me or what? Why can't you just give me the time of the day?"
He looked angry. "I don't expect you to understand. Just... Leave me alone!" He stomped up the porch steps and slammed the door behind him. I'm pretty sure he locked it too.
