Dressing Up

"So, I've made turkey sandwiches and I bought Doritos." My mom smiled and set the plate down in front of me. She sat across from me at the table and bit into the sandwich. I stared at her wondering if my other moms resembled her or if all my moms' was her reborn. Did I have a dad too?

"What's wrong, honey? Aren't you going to eat?"

"Oh, yeah. Sorry, just daydreaming." I took a bite of my sandwich and stuffed my face with doritos.

"Ok, what did you do today?"

"I hung out with a new friend I made. His name is Leland." I smiled to myself at the thought of him.

"Ohhh, is he your boyfriend?" My mom laughed.

"No, mom! He's a new kid at school. He is cute, though."

My mom and I spent some time together. We talked a little bit more about Leland, she told me how work was going, and I told her about school. My mom knew I didn't really have any friends so she was happy to hear that I have one friend. I even told her about the party I was invited to and if I could go.

"Yes, you can go. What time does it start?"

        "Seven o' clock."

"Alright. I want you home by ten-thirty."

I helped her wash the dishes and we watched a comedy movie together. Even though it looked like I was watching the movie, I was really thinking of what I was going to wear, when I was going back to Leland's, etc... I actually couldn't wait! I've never been to a party. Would it be like the ones I seen on TV or would it be just a "social gathering"? Oh, boy!

(7:00)

I ran upstairs to my bedroom and rummaged through my closet. After looking through at least ten different outfits, I finally picked one. I picked black high waisted shorts, a white tank top, black suspenders, and black flips flops. I never really cared about how I looked, but I'm going to a party! I can put some effort in my outfit.

I kissed my mom goodbye and out the door I went. I made it all the way to Leland's without seeing Paul. He was probably at his house getting the party put together. I really needed to get Leland's number or at least give him my number. Leland's house isn't far from mine's. It's ten, fifteen minutes away. My school is around the corner and the path to Leland's is northeast to the school. We live in Destin, Florida. Great weather and not-so-great people. Hm... I'm guessing that's everywhere.

I finally got to Leland's house and rang the doorbell twice, that's my signature.

"Who is it?" Leland shouted from behind the door.

        "It's May." I said.

Two locks were undone and Leland stepped outside. He looked so hot. He was wearing red, striped pajamas and no shirt. I admired his muscles. Big traps, nice pecks, and a rocking hard six pack. His body was perfect.

        "What's up?"

"Leland, I want you to come to a party with me."

He looked uncomfortable at the thought of a party. He scratched his head.

"I don't know... Why are you going, anyway?"

"Some boy invited me and I've never been to a party." I tugged at his hand. "C'mon, it'll be fun."

He still didn't look so sure until I said, "Do you really want me to go by myself?"

Leland invited me inside and asked me to wait for him to get ready. All the lights were still off and I was surprised he didn't fall walking up the steps. Oh, man... I bet there will be games and a whole bunch of fun stuff! I'm not too sure though, like I said, this is my first party. I just want to get a feel of what a party is like.

Leland returned downstairs and I couldn't tell what he was wearing. When we walked onto the porch, I could see he was wearing faded jeans with holes in the knees, a shirt that once had writing on it but it was too faded to read, and black shoes.

I slipped my hand into his and he flinched. If we was married in another life, then what the heck was holding hands? I know he still had fear lingering.

"Let's get this over with." Leland said. And we was on our way to Paul's.
