If you could ask me one question, and that be, "What made me happy?" I'd have a book written for you. I was head over heels in love and was very careful not to fuck anything up. She was worth giving up the old life. She saved me from the very thing that would kill me, and for that I owed my life to her.

My job in Construction was escalading, and there were some nights I came home late. Mindy and I used her savings, and I lended a hand, to her new salon shop, "Mindy's Hair Day."

Her business was booming, and I was so proud of her. Her boss, deep cigarette voice Sharon, was sad to let her go, but praised her for her ability to start her own business. Their businesses were distanced from each other, Mindy had decided to move her business on the other side of town, so she wouldn't be in competition with Sharon, as she had planned to move hers down the block previously.

"I wasn't thinking about that when I saw the New sprinting business building leasing, we would be in competition and that would put some steam between us. She was the one that really pushed to get me here." She said one day at breakfast.

"Why don't we go look today or better yet call a leasing agency and find where there is availability?" I suggested. And that's what we did. She found a nice small building a whole town away and started preparations. Seeing her like this, so happy and so proud of herself made me feel like the luckiest man on the planet. I didn't want to do anything to turn that smile upside down.

Mike was doing great at his job at Kelly's Bar and bringing home really good money. He used that to pay his way and rented the upstairs cabin duplex we were living in. He was doing really well with staying away from the drugs, and I was really proud of him. Because I knew that if he did go back to it, his whole life would be consumed on just that. Those fucking drugs.

We didn't hear from the guys, Damion and Alex, much. Although they would occasionally shoot Mike and I a text making sure we were serious about not coming back. We were serious and we WERNT coming back. There were rumors going around about two men trying to rip off some convenience stores. Police were looking for them from a description witnesses gave them. Fucking stupid asses, those two. Here I have been out of the business for four months and they were already leaving trails behind. When I went along with them, we never left a mark, let alone a fingerprint. I could see them being locked up soon, or worse, killed.

Mindy's parents eventually came around, they still were hesitant about me, but they were just protecting their daughter. Once we showed them how well we were doing, they began to ease up a bit.

One day, her father wanted to have a "talk" with me. I agreed and he stopped by and we sat outside on the picnic bench. Mindy was with Jess getting supplies for the new shop. Since Jess was torn to choose between the two to work with, she stayed with Sharon as Mindy had suggested. Mindy would find her own interns to work.

"What are your intentions with my daughter?" He asked. Intentions? Sir you don't wanna know...

"I plan to treat her with the upmost respect that she deserves." I empathized. "We also plan to save up some more money to get a bigger place." As we used most of it to open the shop, Mindy and I had a lot of saving to do. As long as she was happy. That was what was most important.

"That's what I like to hear and I would like to know more about you." Here we go, lying to the parents, "Do you have a family? Mindy never brought that up."

"They are both dead, my mother died of cancer when my brother and I were young and my father died of a heart attack a few years ago." I was hoping that I would never have to back track these lies with her parents. Just As long as Mindy went a long with it. You should have seen this guys face. "My brother Mike and I are very close, and he does well at his job." He looked impressed. "He lives upstairs but he is rarely home." I pointed up.
