Just as I was about to pull into the shop the phone rang, it was Tony. I answered.
"Hey you, is everything alright?" I asked.
"Is it ever!" Tony beamed on the other end. "I got promoted at my job! Superintendent! Can you believe that?" Wow.
"Oh my gosh! Tony, I am so proud of you!" Excitedly, "This is amazing news."
"And get this, I get my own office and a huge raise." Damn, he's got to be feeling pretty amazing right now.
"This is wonderful. See, when you start doing the right things, good things come your way." I said.
"Yea, I guess." He breathed.
"I'm serious! And I can't wait to celebrate with you tonight!" I was planning it already. I couldn't wait to get my hands on him and hug him in congratulations.
"I forgot to tell you, Mike is in the process of opening his own bar as well!" What? wow!
"Wow, you guys are going to be the business Bear brothers. This is truly amazing." I was so excited for them. Both brothers grown so well into amazing men.
"You know it." He was really happy. I couldn't wait till the end of the workday.
When it finally came, Tony was already there at the house waiting for me. I jumped out of the car and ran to him. He caught me in his arms.
"I'm so happy for you!" I kissed him over and over on his face.
"This is all a dream come true." He said.
"It's the best ever," I said. And then I pulled away. "Listen, my mom called. She's having dinner and thought we could stop by tonight." His face got serious all of a sudden.
"No way, they hate me." He shrugged.
"Not anymore, my mother and I had a talk." I said.
"About what? Me?" He asked.
"Well, sort of, but we both have something in common with men." I smiled.
"I'm not getting you." He was confused.
"I'd rather not talk about it, but let's just say, they are going to learn to be more respectful to you." He was still confused.
"If you think it's a good idea." He didn't want to go. I can say I can't blame him, from the last time they treated him.
"We can tell them about your awesome promotion." I beamed. "I miss them." He nodded. "Come, let's give them a chance."
And so we did, I drove us to my parents. They were standing on the porch as we got there.
"Hi Tony, it is so good to see you again!" Mom happily grabbed Tony for a hug. Tony looked over to me with the most funniest awkward look on his face.
"It's nice to see you too, Mrs. Simms." And then my father walked over and shook his hand.
"Glad to see you come around." Okay, they were being too awfully obvious.
"Well let's get inside shall we!" I tried to break the awkwardness.
After dinner Tony sat around with my father talking politics. We had told them the amazing news of his promotion over dinner.
"He really has come a long way." Mom said as she painted my nails in my old bedroom.
"He has, I really really do love him mom." She nodded.
"I know. I can see that, and I want you to know that I love you." I know what she meant. She loved me enough to be happy and make my own decisions, whether I got hurt or not, they were going to be there to catch me as I fell, like always.
