I was so incredibly happy that we were taking the next big step and renting our dream house! I couldn't wait to talk to somebody about buying the place once Nancy was ready to sell. I loved the place, and it really caught my eye. I can imagine us sitting on the swing on the porch with our cup of tea. Our future children playing in the yard. Nights filled with laughter and precious moments! I Just couldn't wait!

I pulled up to work in a very good mood. I wanted to send the girls home early, and close up so that I could get my registry ready. I went in and told them the news and they were excited for me.

"That's excellent! I am so happy for you!" Trish hugged me and Sandy clapped. These girls were becoming a part of my family. Which reminds me, I needed to call my parents and maybe set up dinner to tell them the news.

I called them on my lunch break. My father picked up.

"Hey sweetie, I hope things are well." My father greeted me over the phone. Yes of course they are. Why wouldn't they be?

"Things are great, listen, I was wondering if Tony and I could come over for dinner tonight, we have something to share." I could hear my mother drop something in the background.

"You're on speaker, it's not another pregnancy, is it?" This hurt my feelings. Will they just let me be an adult?

"No dad, it's not another pregnancy." I needed to talk to them again. I missed them and I really wanted to see them. And I wanted to tell them about the new house.

"I guess that's a good idea, we're anxious to know what it is you have to tell us." Was he mocking me?

"See you around 6?" He agreed and we hung up. So tonight's the night I am going to take Tony over so I can win him over with my parents. They just didn't know him, he was a great guy! Just because he HAD some flaws doesn't mean he should be punished for the rest of his life.

The workday ended and I headed home to tell Tony. He wasn't too happy.

"Tonight? can't we do that another night?" I shook my head.

"No, I want them to learn to respect you." I could tell by the look on his face he didn't want to do it, but he was going to do it for me. I loved my parents, and I loved my boyfriend.

We showed up on time and went in. The air smelled of pork roast. My favorite. My father came around the corner.

"Oh there you are! I didn't hear you knock." I forgot now that I had a boyfriend, they wanted me to knock. I normally just walked right in.

"How are you doing Mr. Simms?" Tony shook his hand.

"Come on in." Dad lead us to the dining table and my mother came in with a dish.

"All ready." She smiled at us and we all sat down and began to eat.

"So what's the news?" Mom asked. Gosh! Can't I swallow my food first?

"Tony and I are going to rent, and eventually buy a house we looked at the other day." I smiled and Tony did too.

"So it's just renting, good so you won't own the house when you leave-" Mom stopped herself. I couldn't believe her! She was really thinking I was going to eventually leave my boyfriend!

"Mom!" I yelled at the dinner table.

"What she means sweetheart is that if anything happens in the long run, you won't have all this responsibility with the house once you get a mortgage." Dad assured me.

"Well nothing is going to happen, because we love each other." I looked over to Tony. He just sat quietly. At least he was being respectful!

"I apologize, how do you like your pork Tony?" My mother asked.

"It's delicious Mrs. Simms, Thank you." He smiled. Poor guy, but he was being so good!

"How's your arm doing?" My father asked.

"It's healing, I get the cast off next week and then I can return to work." He took another bite of his food.

"That's excellent and what is it you said you did, construction?" Dad asked. "Tell me, what do they pay at your job?"

"Dad!" That's it, I got up.

"Mom, dad, they pay really good money okay. I make a little more, but that doesn't mean he can't move up in the future. Christ, leave him alone." I screamed.

I felt Tony tug on my arm, "It's alright Mindy."

"No its not!" I yelled.

"I make good money; I've actually been moving up in the field. And if I go to school I might just make more." He smiled. I could hug him for being so polite. "I actually came up with this invention I wanted to pursue. But I didn't know where to start."

"Hmm, maybe I can call one of my friends to set you up in the right department." My dad said. Good, I'm happy you want to help him, instead of make fun of him!

We all continued to eat and dad and Tony actually got to talking. I was happy to see that. My mother on the other hand, kept staring at him like he was a cold hearted punk that stole their daughter away.

After dinner, mom had packed us some leftovers. She was still giving Tony the evil eye, and I didn't like it.

"Chill out mom." I warned.

"I just want you to be happy, he doesn't give me good vibes." She said then.

"I am very happy mom, and you need to butt out and let me make my own choices, and that goes for Jake." Her head fell. "Look I'm sorry but it's not going to work out with Jake, you have to accept that. That is my love." I pointed over to Tony, who was looking at a car magazine with my dad.

She nodded and we left. "Thank you for doing this for me." I said as he drove, "They will start to love you." He laughed.

"You think I care if they don't like me? Hell, a lot of people don't like me Mindy, I just learn to block that out." That instantly made me sad.

"But you are such a wonderful person to get to know and love!" I was serious! I fell in love with him immediately.

"If they learn to like me, then great, if they don't then-" He waved his hand. "You can't make somebody like you." And he reached for my hand. "As long as I have you I don't need anyone else." I smiled and kissed his hand.

We got home and I undressed to get into the shower. Tony beat me. We just made love right there in the shower. Built with excitement and our new future together - nothing else mattered.
