A Different Path Taken

Chapter 1

Mia POV

Hunger. That was all I felt when I got back to my family's house once I was free from the tomb. I felt weak, I've never been so happy in my life but hunger was overriding ever other emotion I had.

I stayed in my dads room since my uncle wanted to set up the guest bedroom for me since it was just old boxes in there. My dad sat next to me as he handed me more blood bags and after six, I felt full enough.

"Can I ask you something?" I looked at my father who gave me a nod. "Did you know Katherine would feed on me?"

"No. Never." He held my hand, "Mia I swear to you, I never would've gone after her if I knew. I only thought to question her because she was with you the night you were taken. I ran into Anna and she told me you were traveling around the world."

"I wish. I still want to find her and Pearl so I can kill them." I gripped the empty blood bag in anger as I remembered what they did to me. "I suffered for more than 100 years because of them. Dad, I want them dead."

"I promise you. We'll kill them."

"Does a favorite niece of mine want to come meet everyone downstairs?" My uncle said from the doorway and I bit my lip, looking at my dad. "We won't let you do anything. We promise."

I nodded and stood up, still in my old dress but dad stopped me. "Why don't you take a shower and change before going?"

"Okay." I followed him into the bathroom as he showed me how to work the shower. I felt refreshed as I walked out, changing into the new clothes that were laid out for me.

I nervously played with the ends of my hair as I walked to the hall, taking a few deep breaths before walking down the stairs. I paused at the last step and held onto the railing as I saw all the faces turn towards me.

"Hi Mia!" I felt conflicted. Elena was the perfect image of that vamp whore, but some part of me just still didn't like the human. My uncle wouldn't stop talking about how she was the complete opposite of Katherine, but the eyes she was making towards my dad told me otherwise.

"Hello." I nodded to her with a tight smile.

"As you met before, this is Bonnie. She's a witch but we have our other friends that are human so they can't know about you." Elena said and I nodded, waving to Bonnie who reminded me of my beloved fairy.

(A/N: I know it may be a different story from the original I made but this how I'm choosing to write it. Please don't tell me 'that's not how it was in the show' trust me I know)

"Will you be going to school with us?" Bonnie asked and immediately my dad objected.

"No. We need to make sure Mia has her blood cravings under control before that happens. She's been starved so we don't expect her to get it right away."

Bonnie glared at my dad with such hate and anger I was wondering what had happened for her to look at him like that.

"Do you mind if she comes with us to my Grams house? She's not feeling too good after the spell but she really wanted to meet Mia."

"If I can't be there to protect Mia then no-"

"Dad," I cut him off gently. "She saved me. It's the least we can do. We owe her this and so much more."

"As much as it offends me you think we'd hurt Mia, I also understand. Stefans able to go in the house if it makes you feel better." Bonnie said as she grabbed her coat.

"Anything happens to her and I'll rip your organs out, got it?" Dad calmly threatened uncle Stefan who nodded as he held his hand out for me to take.

"I'll run with Mia there." I ran after my uncle, following his directions and soon we ended up in front of a house. I knocked gently and the door opened to show the same witch that saved my life.

"Come on in," she told me as I smiled at her. I walked into the house and my uncle told me he'd stay outside so we can have a private conversation.

"Would you like some tea or something?"

"No thank you, but with all due respect, you should probably sit down. You don't look so well." I gestured to the couch and she thanked me as we sat down. "I want to thank you. I know my father isn't too liked and helping him get me out must've been hard."

"The spirits told me to trust you." She gave me a weak smile, "which is why I need to tell you this before Bonnie gets here. Opening that tomb took all my life energy. I know my time is coming soon and I need you to promise me you'll look after Bonnie. Keep her safe. You girls have a special connection and it will be found out with time."

"I promise." And I will keep that promise. "Being around her, it reminds me of how Emily was with me. I miss her."

"I figure you know how she died then right?"

I nodded, keeping my emotions in check before I can't control myself. "Once we got thrown in the tomb, Katherine made it a point to tell me how Emily was burned at the stake and we knew it, we could hear the shouts and her screams of pain. She was the only one who protected me from Katherine and Pearl."

"She's still very found of you, Amelia. All the spirits are."

"Grams?!" We heard Bonnie shout and I turned to see her walk in with a smiling Elena.

I instantly felt my mood drop when I saw her. I heard a small yawn from her grandmother and turned to her. "I should let you get some rest. We both had a very eventful night, right?"

Her grandmother smiled at me and I gave her a hug. "Remember your promise." She whispered in my ear and I nodded, before getting up to leave.

That night, we got the news that Bonnies grandmother had died and I felt horrible for Bonnie, who was not taking the lost easy.

I heard a knock on the front door and went to open it, a teenage boy stood there. "Oh Uh, hi I'm Jeremy. Elena's brother, she wanted me to get a few things from here."

"Oh! Sure. I'm Mia, their cousin." He looked surprised as he walked in and I could smell the fresh warm blood in his neck.

"Bye." I waved to him as I quickly walked away to the kitchen area before I sank my teeth into his neck.

I hated not having the control my family had, but I also was new to this. I went back upstairs to my dads room to relax on the bed, completely worn out from the day.
