Peridot forced one foot in front of the other, heavy, dark black lines painted under her eyes and she wore a mask of pure exhaustion. It had been a long few days with the crystal gems, a long few days of chasing after a certain corrupted gem that had been tormenting the grounds of the beta kindergarten for some time.
As part of Peridot's first official mission, it was up to her, with the help of Steven, to capture it. There had been an overly amount of disastrous mishaps, ones that included falling off cliffs, being crushed by rocks, and even getting a couple hard blows to the face. Non the less, Peridot was simply exhausted and her body ached with pain. To her luck though, she had one, perfect plan in mind as for how to relax.
Peridot slunk into the shade of the barn, hardly managing to pick up her feet as she shuffled towards the base of the barn ladder loudly.
"Peridot? Is that you?" The familiar voice asked from above her. Peridot didn't bother to respond to Lapis' question, and instead clambered up the ladder clumsily, even slipping a couple times. Stars, was she unbearably tired.
Once she had reached the upper loft of the barn, she continued her drowsy sauntering until she stood at the foot of a ratty blue chair. Lapis was sitting on it, holding a book with one hand. She hadn't even looked up yet. Grumbling, Peridot did what she intended to do in the first place.
There was a short gasp from Lapis as the small green gem suddenly clambered into the comfort of her lap without warning. Lapis resisted the urge to shove her off out of spite, but stopped herself when she saw how battered she looked. It must've been a rough mission.
She sat still holding her breath as Peridot finally settled, tucked in close with her head resting comfortably in the crook of her free arm, bundling her legs up to her chest and pressing against Lapis with an exhausted whimper.
Accepting her fate with a sigh, Lapis gently gave the triangular green stone on Peridot's forehead a brisk nuzzle, which made the small gem shiver in response. Holding back a chuckle of amusement, Lapis slowly trailed her hand up and over Peridot's back, adjusting her grip as she began to gentle caress her back, reading the book she had in the other hand.
Hardly a couple minutes had even passed before the little gem in her arms was asleep and snoring noisily, her sides gently rising and falling with each tiny breath. Lapis gave a soft smile and set her book down on the ground besides her. She gave a pained and contorted look at Peridot's scuffed up face before gently leaning in to place a prolonged, tender kiss to a large angry scratch mark that practically covered one side of her cheek. Peridot squeaked in retaliation and buried her a head further into Lapis' chest, resuming her purring session unbothered.
Finally feeling the gnawing sensation of sleep and growing tired herself, Lapis leaned back happily and felt her eyes finally flutter shut to the soft drone and lull of Peridot's snores.
A/N: Just something short and sweet to make up for the lack of fics :> I also couldn't think of a good title since it's so short :/ ALSO!! I plan on moving over to AO3 once my account is verified! Stay tuned!
