Lapis stood next to Peridot atop of little Home school, both admiring the setting sun as they leaned over the edge. The summer wind was cool and heavy with humidity, and heard the cicadas as they began their nightly hum. Over the years she'd been on earth, she was amazed at all the creatures and organic life earth had.

After being freed from her fusion with Jasper as Malachite, she wasn't sure if she'd ever find her home. That was until she met Peridot. Peridot took her time to befriend the timid blue gem despite her hostility and past trauma. She learned to smile, laugh and trust again with her around.

Lapis sighed and looked to her right where Peridot stood, and smiled. The over enthusiastic gem had really rubbed off on her, and she was thankful for that. Lapis looked back towards the sky, watching the pallet of orange, pink and yellow as they began to ebb away into the gentle dark navy blues and purples, decked with white, sparkling stars. Suddenly, an idea came to mind, and she sat up, beaming at Peridot.

"Oh! I have an idea.." She trailed, waiting for Peridot's response. The green gem stayed facing forward, but answered bubbly. "What's your idea, Laz?" She adjusted her crooked pointed visors and turned to her, leaning on her elbow to look at the water gem, complete with a smug and mischievous grin. Lapis started to giggle a bit, snorting in the process.

"Don't- don't give me that look, it's ridiculous." And cute, she wanted to add. "Oh, this face?" Peridot said, pretending to be surprised as she mocked her previous expression, but with more attitude. Lapis pivoted away and put a hand to her face in effort to hide her blushing. "Ok, ok! Cut it out, I get it." She managed to wheeze, still laughing. "Fine~" Peridot shrugged, amused. "So, what's this idea you got?"

Lapis let her gaze trail up to the starry night sky again. "I was thinking we could go flying."

"Oh, sounds fun! I'll get my hefty trash can lid-" As she began to walk away, Lapis called after her. "No, I-I mean, I'll carry you." She stammered, reaching a hand behind her back to ruffle her unkempt hair. Peridot's eyes widened. "Carry me?!" She blurted, clearly alarmed at her sudden and unexpected offer as she pointed at herself. Lapis simply shrugged. "Why not? I thought it sounded fun." Peridot returned the gesture, tossing her arms carelessly into the air and closing her eyes and nodding. "I see your point, Lazuli. Let's go."

Not hesitating, she gave a devious grin before bringing out her water wings and launching herself into the air with a powerful thrust. She gained a small amount of altitude before swooping down towards an unsuspecting Peridot. She grabbed both of her wrists in each hand and lifted the confused gem off the ground and carrying her off into the air.

"Uh-" Peridot opened her mouth to exclaim, gasping for words as she was flown away from Little Home school. "Lazuli! Put me down!" She shouted, kicking madly in the air. "So help me I will drop you." Lapis scoffed playfully, loosening her grip. She squealed, now clinging to one of Lapis' arms with both hands as she stared fearfully at the shrinking ground.

Rolling her eyes, Lapis tugged her up and helped her as a relieved Peridot scrabbled onto her back, wrapping her arms around her neck and clinging on tightly, burrowing her face against her gem. Lapis flinched, but relaxed eventually, comfortable with Peridot pressed so close against her gem. 'Humph." Peridot uttered, turning her head to look out, letting her arms dangle as she pouted.

"Don't be like that!" Lapis teased, whacking her hand. In response, the green gem simply rolled her eyes, leaning forward to peek over Lapis' shoulder. Her eyes turned to stars as she saw Beach City from a great distance up, gaping at the view as they soared over it. "I didn't think it'd be this beautiful." She murmured, still awestruck with wonder. A fresh gust of wind billowed them as she drifted closer to the ground, careful to keep Peridot secure as she did. Lapis stole a moment for herself to look down at a sleeping Beach City herself, once again admiring it's thrill of life and energy.

...

After a good dose of eye candy for the two of them, she started to head back towards little homeschool. Peridot gave a soft yawn and nudged her way into the crook of her neck, nuzzling in for max comfort and looping her arms around her neck in a hug. Lapis gave a content smile as she looked back, amused to see the small gem half asleep and still clinging on. Lapis looked at Peridot's hand and grew tempted to grab it. Gritting her teeth, she grabbed her hand and held it tightly, surprised as Peridot returned the squeeze.

Once the gem school was finally in sight, she landed at the same place they had been before, then carefully slid Peridot off her back and held her bridal style, rather embarrassed with herself as she cradled the sleeping gem towards homeschool's entrance. Using her shoulders to push in the heavy swinging doors, she made a sharp turn to a hammock in the corner; their favorite place to sleep. It was soft and silky, and a cotton blanket lay awaiting. Lapis placed the sleeping gem in the bed, then gingerly crawled in besides her, hooking one arm around her waist protectively into a spoon.

She looked out the window at the glimmering stars again and sighed with smile, curling herself around Peridot. She mewed and rolled over, tucking herself against Lapis as she placed one hand over her side and nuzzled into her chest, breaking into a purr.

Lapis felt stunned again at Peridot's affection, but embraced it happily, gazing lovingly at the green gem. She wrapped one arm around her hair, stroking it softly while humming nonsense, slowly closing her eyes. After she was sure that Peridot was asleep, Lapis herself eventually gave in to the tiredness that had been nagging her. With a gentle kiss to Peridot's gem, she tugged the blanket out from beneath them and strewed it over herself and Peridot, bringing it up to their shoulders. Lapis rested her head above hers, settling at last. Cozy and satisfied, she let her mind wander off, and eventually, she was lulled to sleep.
