I run downstairs quickly and helped Mr Danso sit on the couch.
Standing awkwardly,I watched as the old man tried to catch his breath.
"Stop looking at me!" He said.
I turned my eyes awkwardly and stared at the television."You know what.." he slurred "I hate you so m-much..I hate everything a-about you. I don't know w-why but..ugh..I-Daniella-my d-daughter-you remind of that fool-strong willed ju-just like y-you" he finished amidst hiccups as he threw one of the glass paintings on the floor at me. I flinched as one piece of glass went into my legs and hissed.
"G-get me wa-tt-er aandd c-lean this mess-s-s" he said.
Limping,I went to the main bathroom and cleaned the small wound with some cotton and mythelated spirit. I then went to the kitchen, poured some water into a glass and slipped two pills in it. I waited for it to dissolve, stirred the water and sighed.
"This is the time."I took the water to the hall and handed it over to him. I then went back the kitchen to get a broom and dust pan and went to the hall to sweep the broken glasses, keeping my eyes on him. He began to get faint and soon the old man had spread his body on the couch and was sleeping soundly. Quickly collecting and disposing off the pieces of glass,I went to the hall and passed my hand in front of his eye. He did not move. I gave him a little shake,he still did not move.
Carefully,I took the wallet out of his back pocket and opened it,praying the key was there. The Lord must have heard me,for there was the the key resting peacefully amongst some money. I took the key out and replaced it with the fake key. I looked at the 100 cedis notes in the wallet lustfully, contemplating whether to take a few or not.
Shaking my head,I closed the wallet and quietly placed it back in his pocket. You thought I'd take the money erh? Thank you please, I'm a child of God.
Smiling brightly,I quickly walked up the stairs to me room and dialled Christian's number.
I got the key bit*hes!
*****************************
It was Monday evening, exactly 2 nights since I got the key and today was the day that we were going to save the children. On Saturday and Sunday,Daniella had briefed Christian and I on how everything was going to work.So basically, this is what she said.
She was going to pick me up at around 11pm in front of the house. I was to sneak out without anyone knowing and was to make sure that everyone was asleep and that no one saw me sneak out. She would pick Christian a few houses away from mine and we would drive to the house in which the children were being held captive. She said that there would be three of 'her men' in a van who would help us get the children out of there. She also said that when the children were rescued, they would be driven to her(Daniella) house in the van. At her house, the press would be there waiting to record the children's side of the story and that it would be aired on national television.
When I asked her the reason for this, she said that if the general public got involved, the police would be forced to get deeper into the story and hence it couldn't be abandoned.
Daniella had said that two years ago,she got pictures of some kidnapped children being taken to the airport, and even got the parents of these children to speak on national television but apparently it wasn't enough evidence so the story was not given attention. She insisted that having the children speak about what they had gone through would be the solid evidence that was needed.
"After all" she said,"everyone knows that children do not tell lies. A child cannot make up something this serious so it will convince the public that it is no lie."Everything seemed so easy and well planed but that did not stop the fear that I had inside me. I just hoped that things would go as planned.
