RECAP OF THE PREVIOUS CHAPTER:
I opened the contacts and stared at it,the tears still flowing. My hand seemed to dial a familiar number that I had memorized even though I had never called it. Looking at the 10 digits,I pressed the call button and placed it on my ear.
It rang two times and the person picked.
"Hello" I said,my voice breaking.
"L-lina..is it you?" The voice asked.
"Yes it is.." I said, crying harder.
"Baby girl what's wrong? What is up? Why are you crying?"
"He raped me Christian.." I said, breaking down.**Christians POV*
I looked up the ceiling deep in thoughts. I had a lot on my mind these days that sometimes I'd be unable to sleep. Unlike most of my friends in the slums,I had a well-guarded house to sleep in and food to eat without really struggling. But that didn't mean I didn't have problems,I did, trust me.
The ringing of my phone brought me back to reality. I grumbled and picked up the phone, hoping it wasn't one of the boys. I looked at the screen on the phone and it displayed an unknown number. Sighing,I picked it up and placed it on me ear.
"Hello..." a familiar voice said. I stayed silent for a while as my mind tried to pick up the voice.
'Franklina' my head told me,and shook my head in disbelief.
"L-lina..is it you?" I asked
"Yes it is..." She said,as she began to cry. I felt a sharp pain in my heart at the thought of her crying and proceeded to bombard her with questions.
"Baby girl what's wrong? What is up? Why are you crying?" I asked in the softest voice I could use.
"He raped me Christian.." she saidMy heart skipped a beat when I heard these words and my blood began to boil.
"Who raped you Lina."
"M-M-Mr D-Dan-D-Dans-Danso" she said amidst tears.
I clenched my hands at the mention of his name. Mr Danso, from what he had told us,was her new boss. From how she had described him and the house hold to me the few times we talked on Sister Owusuwaa's phone,I knew for sure that he was one ruthless bastard. Her cries got harder and it took everything in me not to ask her for the location of the house so I could go pick her up. I spoke to her softly as she cried, trying to calm her tears. She talked and she cried, explaining what had happened to me. It broke my heart so much that I had to tell her to stop. I calmed her down with sweet words and cracked a few jokes. At first she failed to laugh but when the atmosphere got lighter, she started laughing at the jokes and the sound of her laughter brought me so much joy.
Franklina and I began to talk about random things, from houses,to schools,to clothes etc and this,I believe, took her mind off what had just happened. Once or twice in the conversation, she'd stop talking abruptly and whisper for me to be quiet. Then I would hear a door open and close and then we'll start talking normally again. When I asked her about it,she told me that it was because she felt like she heard footsteps and was just making sure that no one was there.
"..but I still think butter bread is nicer than sugar bread."
"No..it's not. Butter break is just flour and eggs. Sugar bread has sugar and essence in it Christian..." she said, her voice getting softer at the end. I smiled and put my legs on wall.
"Who said butter bread doesn't have sugar..?" I asked smiling.
"Please please. It doesn't.." she said, her breath getting slower and slower.
"It does Lina" I said with a little laugh.
I didn't hear any response from her so I waited for sometime and called her name.
"Lina..?" Once again there was no reply but I couldn't hear her breathing slowly. I smiled as realisation hit me. She had fallen asleep.I listen to her breath for sometime. Lina has always been one of the few girls I vibe with. When she moved here, she was so different from the girls around and that attracted me to her. She was so rude and refused to talk to any guy, which resulted in them teasing her and calling her "the rich spoilt girl." I was always at here rescue though, but that made her even ruder to me.
Time passed and she began to come around. Since then we've been close, but that night when she cried herself to sleep in my shirt brought us closer. You all remember that day right? Yes. It brought us so close that people began to address her as my wife.
Not that I mind though..
I smiled as I thought of this and sighed.
"Good night my love.." I said, hanging up.
I placed the phone on the bed and looked at the clock.
It read 1:12am.
Damn,Lina and I had been talking for long.
I thought of what Lina had told me about the man who raped her and clenched my fists.I'd punch his crusty ass to space if I ever set eyes on him ,mark my words.
