Chapter 28

Bryan walked into Chris' room. She looked so fragile, so weak and small. "Chris." He asked as he approached the bed.

"Bryan, hey." She said weakly.

"How are you?" He asked, holding her hand.

"I have quite a bit of a headache." She said as Bryan examined her arm. "Are you looking for something?"

"Do you know how you got those?" He asked, pointing to the needle punctures.

"I'm not sure."

"Bryan, sorry to interrupt." Carl said entering the room. "I want to keep Chris for a night for observation. But alone. I don't want anyone in this room with her."

"Why can't he stay?" She asked.

"I need him to do something. Can you say goodbye and meet me outside?" Carl said leaving the room.

"What's going on, Bryan? Is there something wrong with me? You're going to lock me up, aren't you? I'm crazy."

"No, my love. Not at all. Carl just wants to find out what's wrong with you. I would never lock you up and you're not crazy. I love you, Chris." He said kissing her.

"Carl, what is your plan?" Bryan asked when he left Chris.

"Your nurse disappeared as soon as you yelled at her. I need you to go back to the house and see if you can find any vials in her room. She must've been injecting Chris with something that keeps her having episodes. That's why I want to keep her, to see if whatever she's been given runs out of her system."

"So any vial I find, you want me to bring it to you?"

"Yes, hurry in case that nurse ran home and took everything."

"I will."

Bryan ran through the doors and found Sebastean on the dining room. "Hey, how is she?"

"Has Alessandra come by?"

"Yes, she came to get some clothes for Chris. You just barely missed her." Sebastean said as Bryan ran up the stairs to Alessandra's room. Everything was gone, her clothes, her bags, everything. He ran to their room and started looking around the nightstand and trash. There at the bottom he found a vial with still a little liquid inside.

"I'll be back. I have to take something to Carl. If Alessandra comes back, don't let her in."

"What's going on, Black?"

"Call Joe, tell him to come over. I'll fill you in when I get back."

When he came back, Joe and Sebastean were waiting for him in the living room. "Black, what's going on?" Joe asked as soon as he walked inside.

"Carl found some needle punctures on Chris' arms and when they did some blood work they found some chemical they couldn't identify. And then, Alessandra disappeared, so we think she was injecting Chris nightly with this chemical which was causing the episodes. He's keeping her overnight to see if the medication leaves her system." Bryan explained.

"Was Alessandra working for your father?" Sebastean asked.

"I'm starting to think so." Bryan answered.
