Fabien and Royce had spent the morning at NB Auditors and the afternoon compiling the requirements before laying the initial designs with color samples beside the requests. They had a team of five working on the designs and materials and would eventually hand over to the production side once completed. It was one of many projects but due to the possible financial gain, Fabien and Royce were ordered to forfeit other projects to different members. No relief was felt as this equated four small companies.
"I think we've made a lot of progress in such a small window of time," Royce commented, taking a seat on my desk.
"The draft is good. The thought of the walkthrough and convincing the client?" I shuddered.
"I know. I didn't expect the place to be so huge. Do you think they have the budget to do it in one go?"
I tapped my pencil on the scattered plans that spilled over from my desk to Royce's desk.
"I'm sure they'd never suggest this big a project if they had shallow pockets," I settled before tossing the pencil and leaning back in to my chair.
Royce took a deep breath and hung his head back. We both groaned before chuckling at our synchronized cry.
"Majority of the people have left. We should head out too."
"Home?" I asked him, feeling that the destination would be different.
"Let's get food and then head home."
I was right.
...
We had gone to the closest restaurant and wolfed down a few burgers and beers before Royce dropped me off. He had a high tolerance so we were not at risk when he drank. Unfortunately for me, tipsy was the second glass I took. I stopped there but still felt bubbly and sensitive as I moved.
I pulled out my key and entered the house, meeting Kiel in the kitchen. He stood by the stove and looked over to me, his hair bunched up in to a ponytail that sprung from the top of his head. My hand lifted to a wave as I leaned back on the door to close it. Kiel copied my action and broke in to a smile.
"Please tell me it was a date because you've clearly drank."
I scoffed and moved from the door to him, looking in to the pan. He was making a stir fry with mushrooms, noodles and vegetables, the spices giving off a divine scent. A part of me kind of regretted skipping out on dinner with Kiel.
"I wouldn't go on a date so randomly."
"That's why you're single," Kiel pinched my cheek lightly and shook his head. "Be spontaneous! Get some dick!"
I swatted his shoulder and laughed with him. Kiel turned his attention to his food and took metal tongs to toss it.
"Your mother was trying to get hold of you. She called me and asked me to tell you to check your phone."
I furrowed my brows and fished for my phone in my denim pockets.
"I kept my phone on silent. Today was hella busy."
I looked at the screen and had a few messages and missed calls. I figured it happened after I texted Kiel that I wasn't going to make it for dinner. I opened the messages from my mother and skimmed them as I walked to my room and crept on to the bed. Once I settled flat on my stomach, I read the longer messages and felt my heart pounding in my chest.
"Hi Bibi, been trying to call but I know you are busy. Please make time to come home. I need to speak to you about something important. I have met someone and we're considering marrying but I need you and Jacque to bless us. Plus, it has been a while since you have come home and seeing you will make my days better. Will wait to hear from you – mummy."
