Love: Just a Word

Chapter Ten

        Sam woke later than she had thought. It was 6:45. She needed to get ready quickly. She already missed morning practice. Sam ran down the stairs, to get some clean clothes, but she paused when she saw two figures in the dark, and sobs.

        The figures were Lily and her boyfriend Zack. Zack looked up at Sam, and tapped on Lily's shoulder. Zack's light blue eyes showed saddness. Sam flipped on the switch. Lily wipped her eyes and looked at Sam.

        "Sam, I have some bad news." Lily said, staying where she was. Curled beside Zack.

        "O-okay?" Sam said, this couldn't be good. 

        "Mom, and Dad got in a bad crash. With a Drunk Driver." Lily said, tearing back up. Sam herself guessed what was coming, and started to tear up herself.

           "Sammy, there wasn't really any chance." Lily said, trying to keep her voice from cracking, in the end falling. Sam's eyes widden. She ran back up those stairs and tackled her bed. Crying into the pillow.

        Her family, her mother, her father. Gone. They might have fought, but they were her famliy. No one could replace them. Sam screamed into her pillow. More and more pain filled her. Her phone started to buzz crazily. She didn't answer it.

        The buzz grew, and grew when more and more calls were trying to get in. Sam had gotten most the screaming out of her system, and picking up the phone. So she didn't worry her caller. It was Maddie. She could make out Nikki in the background.

        "Hello?" Sam's voice was cracking.

        "Sam? You don't sound to good. You okay?" Maddie asked.

        "No, no I'm not." Sam said, her voice was a different pitch with every word.

        "Sam? What's wrong?" Maddie asked, her voice was sweet and comforting.

        "Their gone, Maddie." Sam couldn't say who, no matter how hard she tried. She started to cry harder. She couldn't handle this. Everything gotten worse as Maddie tried to get Sam to answer who. Nikki took the phone from Maddie, and asked who. 

        Sam again didn't answer, she kept trying to, but the words just never came out. Nikki handed to the phone back to Maddie, when Maddie was getting to worried. Cora and the team had walked into the office which they were.

        Sam answer the questions she could, when a knock at the door echoed through the sobs of her and Lily. Nikki came up the stairs and hugged Sam.

        "I'm so sorry." Nikki said, hugging Sam tightly. Sam cried into Nikki's shoulder and Nikki took the phone. She explained what Lily had told her and soon Sam could hear the sad voices throught the phone. She wanted to say thank-you but she couldn't form any words anymore.

        She was broken.
