Chasing Darkness (Sequel to Remember Me)

Part Eleven

Your vision blurs in and out of reality as you can't seem to keep your eyes open and focused. You know for a fact that you're being carried somewhere and you can hear voices talking about you worriedly although their words seem to muddle together. You try your hardest to stay conscious but to no avail as you pass out again.

"Leorio! I think she's unconscious again!" Bennett shouts worriedly.

Bennett carries you in his arms, while Leorio is hurriedly walking in front of him as they rush towards what seems like some type of village. Jaya and Izunavi walk behind Bennett to keep a lookout for any possible attackers sent by Shadow. 

"It's okay! She needs to sleep it off!" He replies back to him although he's obviously worried as well, "I gave her some medicine, but I need to make the antidote."

"Do you think these people will have what you need to make it?" Bennett asks him, glancing back down at you for a moment before his eyes fall on the village in front of him, "I don't think many people live here."

Leorio nods to this confidently, "It's an ingredient that's not very hard to find. Someone definitely has what we need." 

"Don't worry too much, kid," Izunavi says, placing a hand on Bennett's shoulder reassuringly, "Cloak's been through much worse. Poison won't be enough to stop her."

"I am in agreement with Izunavi. (Y/N) is very tough. This will only slow her down slightly," Jaya adds to Izunavi's words of comfort.

This seems to relieve Bennett's worries to an extent and he lets out a sigh of relief, "Yeah, you're both right. My sister is strong enough to beat this."

"However, I am shocked that Shadow would allow one of his so-called 'friends' to try and kill (Y/N). He must not have been aware that someone would stray from his orders and try to kill her," Jaya points out, her hand on her chin while she speaks, "I do not think Shadow will be very happy when he finds out about this."

"Not at all. In fact, I expect him to completely lose control," Izunavi says in agreement with her, "He already seems to struggle with his emotions."

Jaya nods to this, "Indeed. Especially with those childish outbursts that he has so often."

Bennett gulps harshly at their conversation, trying his best not to picture how poorly Shadow would react to hearing about (Y/N) nearly being killed. Bennett knows better than anybody how Shadow thinks after spending some time alone with him while he was kidnapped. In the near distance, Leorio has finally found someone that he can ask for help. Without a second thought, Bennett rushes towards them with you nestled in his arms.

"-You do have it? Thank you! Do you have somewhere we can stay while our friend recovers?" Leorio is speaking with an older man who, thankfully, seems to have the ingredient that he was in dire need of.

The man nods slowly to this, pointing to an abandoned-looking house in the near distance, "You can stay in there. Nobody lives there. It's been abandoned for some time. If you want the ingredient then follow me."

"Can't you just bring it over to us??" Leorio questions him, clearly annoyed at the man's uncaring attitude, "Our friend is dying, dammit!"

The man narrows his eyes at Leorio, clearly annoyed by his loud reaction, "Do you want it or not?" He turns and starts walking away.

"W-wait! I want it!" Leorio runs after him, turning around to point at the house, "You guys can head over! Just set (Y/N) up in a bed with a cold rag and I'll be back soon!"

"Okay, be careful!" Bennett calls out after him as he follows the old man back to his house. Your loving brother starts walking towards the dingy-looking house with Izunavi and Jaya trailing closely behind him, "Hang in there, (Y/N)."
