Chasing Darkness (Sequel to Remember Me)

Part Nine

"Okay, is everyone in?" Leorio turns around from the front seat of his car to see you squished between Jaya and Bennett in the backseat, while Izunavi sits in the passenger seat. Jaya gives him an annoyed look prompting him to say, "That's definitely a yes... Let's go pick up my car."

He drives out of the hotel parking lot, and down the road towards the auto repair shop, making idle chat while he drives, "Thanks for letting me drive your car, Bennett. I didn't think you would trust me to."

"I don't mind if you drive my car, plus, you need the leg room more than me," Bennett points out to him, "And I'm sorry about your car.. I hope the repairs weren't expensive."

"Don't worry about that. (Y/N) paid for them anyway," He seems to grow happier when he remembers finding out the price of the repairs, and you instantly offering to pay for them.

Your brother's gaze falls on you, his apologies being directed towards you instead, "I'm sorry, (Y/N). I should have caught up to them faster."

"Don't be ridiculous. Everything is taken care of now," You quickly reassure him, waving off his apologies, "Besides, I should be the one apologizing for putting you in danger."

"I do not believe that anyone needs to apologize," Jaya speaks up, trying to end this pointless back-and-forth, "Let's just focus on the matter at hand. We still have a dangerous mercenary on the loose."

"You're right, Jaya!" Bennett agrees with her, shaking off his earlier thoughts. His eyes fall on the road in front of him as Leorio starts to slow the car down, "Wait... Is that...?"

"What the hell are they doing here??" Leorio asks in an obnoxiously loud tone, releasing his foot from the gas pedal, "Should I just floor it?"

"Yeah, floor it!!" Bennett is quick to agree with Leorio's idea, watching the two men standing in the middle of the road with widened eyes, "We don't stand a chance!"

You set your hand down on Bennett's shoulder, trying to calm him down, "As much as I'd love to agree, I think we should pull over. If you try to hit them, it's only going to cause more problems."

Leorio lets out a defeated sigh, mumbling, "I was afraid you might say that," He starts to pull the car over onto the side of the road, voicing his concerns aloud, "What could they possibly want?? And how do they know where we are??"

"With these two, anything is possible," Truthfully, you're wondering the same thing, but you're more worried about what their intentions could be. You unbuckle your seatbelt and start to climb out of the car after Jaya, but Bennett grabs your hand, holding you in place.

"(Y/N), wait-" He tries to stop you, but you pull your arm out of his grasp and hop out of the car.

"I'll be fine, Bennett. Don't worry," You approach the two familiar figures first, with Jaya and Izunavi standing right behind you. Bennett and Leorio both hesitate before joining you all. "Alright, I'll bite. What is this about?" You question them with your hands shoved into your jacket pockets.

"My, my~ Not even a hello for your dear friend?" Hisoka fakes a sad look, while Illumi, who stands beside him, watches him with an emotionless expression on his face, "It's been quite a while since we've last seen each other♡"

You don't bother to show him any emotions, instead, holding a bored look onto your face, "It was pretty peaceful, too. What do you want?"

"Want? I want quite a few things, my dear (Y/N). For one, I want to fight you," He watches you with a twisted grin on his face, licking his lips seductively.

Bennett rushes towards you, grabbing your hand worriedly, "(Y/N), I'll protect you!" He says this, but his voice is shaky, and sweat is dripping down his forehead.
