────────────────────THE NEXT DAY ROLLED AROUND, SAPNAP WAKING UP TO A QUIET HOUSEHOLD. After getting up to brush his teeth and whatnot, he saw Veda was no longer asleep on the couch. The basement was empty, silent, but consoling.
Although his ears did pick up on something. Music. Indistinct, but a familiar melody was droning. Shoving on some socks against the cold tiled floor, he hopped up the stairs and saw Veda standing alone in the kitchen. She looked calm, postured over the stove, where a pan was heating up pancake batter.
"Jamie, you want chocolate chips?"
A voice peeped up, coming from the living room that connected with the kitchen through a hallway. It belonged to Veda's sister.
"Yeah, please."
The song registered to Sapnap's head after a moment or so of thinking of it. "Dope on a Rope" by The Growlers.
"Morning," Veda spoke up. Sapnap didn't even know she saw him.
"Oh, uh, hi," he grinned, ruffling his hair and walking over to the marble island.
"Like the song?"
"Yeah, nice taste."
She winked at him then flipped over a oval shaped pancake.
"I'm getting Jamie started on good songs younger so she can grow into good music taste. Older sister duties."
Sapnap laughed, clearing his throat. It was of no use, though. His morning voice was as evident as ever. Little did he know, Veda thought it was even better than normal.
"Twitter is insane," she acknowledged. Sapnap hummed, pulling out his phone and opening the app. Veda wasn't kidding.
"I should probably post something," Sapnap joked.
"Sure. Don't take a picture of me, though. I just woke up, like, twenty minutes ago."
He scoffed, "I won't, but you look good. When I first wake up I look like I have some SFX makeup on or some shit."
"I think you look dashing, monsieur." Veda's spontaneous French accent was surprisingly good.
Sapnap stood up, walking over to her side and holding up his phone to the stove where she had four messy pancakes cooking. For a brief moment, she thought he was approaching her for a hug. Either way, she wanted one, so without a second thought she wrapped her arms around him.
