I'm waiting for Paisley outside of school when I hear my name being called from behind me. I spin around, expecting to see Paisley, but instead, it's Mya, running towards me with a grin spreading across her face. When she gets close enough, she bends down, trying to catch her breath.
"Why didn't you tell me Paisley was coming over." She pants, still trying to regain her breath.
"Cause I didn't know until like three hours ago? And how did you know she was coming over?" I grumble. Knowing Mya and her odd obsession with Paisley, she's going to end up third wheeling us all night, and we're not going to get any alone time.
"Well, Mia heard it from Logan, who heard it from Meera, who heard it from Gloria, who h-"
"You know what?", I interrupt, "I just realized that I don't care how you heard anymore." Before things can get worse, Paisley appears behind us, effectively scaring the both of us.
Paisley opens up her arms, as Mya screams in happiness and runs to hug her.
"It almost seems like I'm the third wheel here." I mutter, but Paisley hears me and grins, gently putting Mya down and walking towards me. Before I know what's happening, Paisley's leaning down and picking me up bridal style, as Mya smirks in the back.
"What the hell Paisley!" I shriek, but she doesn't put me down, instead she starts walking towards her car, gesturing for Mya to follow.
"You're letting this pain in the ass come?" I groan, as Paisley sets me down in the passenger seat, leaning down to kiss me before walking over to the drivers side.
"Babe, I deal with you every day, I think I can handle my favorite Heighten."
Paisley reaches back, high fiving Mya as I roll my eyes at her.
"You guys are so mean."
We pull up to our house ten minutes later, but as I go to follow Mya into the house, Paisley pulls me to the side, refusing to make eye contact with me as she stares at her shoes.
"What if your family hates me?" She blurts out, still looking at the ground.
I snort and she looks up, confusion evident on her face.
"Babe, I'm pretty sure they like you more than they like me. You have nothing to worry about."
When she worries about little things like this, it makes my heart warm up. It's these moments that make me feel like she's not faking, that she's into this as much as I am, and it fills me with hope.
The other, more logical part of me however, knows she isn't doing this for me, but for others so they think we're together. I know she's doing this for Mila, but a part of me still wants to have hope, hope that she feels the same way.
