I meet up with Morgan on the front steps of school, and she hugs me, wrapping her arm around my neck.
"I can't believe today is the last year of hell." She says cheerfully.
I laugh. Morgan and I certainly have different opinions of school.
"Brooke? There's something I have to tell you, okay? You're not going to like it." Morgan says. Her smile is gone all of a sudden and she looks really anxious.
"Okay? I'm listening." I question, confused.
"Okay. Don't be mad B. P-" Morgan starts when all of the sudden the principal comes out and starts shouting.
"Seniors, come over here by the ramp. If your last name starts with A-M, go to Mrs. Kiner. If your last name starts with N-Z, come to me."
I look back at Morgan. "You can just tell me later okay?" I take a deep breath and start walking towards Mrs. Kiner. I had her for algebra last year. She was a really good teacher and always wore crazy expensive clothes. The teachers at our school get paid a lot of money because it's such a big school and we all have to pay to go here.
Our school is massive. It towers over all the homes around it. It's a 9 through 12 school, but it has over a thousand students. There's definitely not enough bathrooms though. Everytime I walk into the bathroom there seems to be a line. Maybe I'm just unlucky.
Mrs. Kiner smiles when she calls my name off her attendance sheet.
"It's nice to see you Brooke. How was your summer?"
I smile back. "It was good. Our family went on a road trip around the country. We saw a lot of interesting things. Jake even got off his phone for a while."
"That's good to hear. Good luck this year."
I nod, and she continues down the line. When she's done, we all file into the auditorium and sit down by homeroom. I'm in Mr. Jayes homeroom. He looks about eighty and I'm surprised he's still walking, much less teaching .
When we all get settled Principal Lokes steps on stage.
"Welcome back to Fir Hollow Academy. I'm so excited for another great year. Thi-"
Principal Lokes keeps droning on and on about the school. He gives the same boring speech every year. I turn around to look at Morgan and she locks eyes with me. She urgently points to the stage. Since when has Morgan paid attention in school? I turn back around and focus on the principal again.
"And finally, I have a very special announcement. There is a very special senior that has transferred to our school this year. Not only does she have excellent grades, she is changing the game of football as the first lady quarterback to win a state championship."
My blood runs cold. I know exactly who he's talking about. Paisley Lewis. Two years ago she completely ruined my relationship, my confidence, and my life all in two weeks. Paisley Lewis is a cocky, arrogant, bitch, who doesn't care about anyone but herself. This year is going to be awful.
The principal is still talking. "I would like to give her a Fir Hollow welcome. Welcome Paisley Lewis!"
The whole school gives her a standing ovation (Except me obviously), cheering, clapping, and screaming.
She runs on the stage with a cocky grin, a football tucked under her arm. Her and Principal Lokes exchange a handshake, and her biceps show. Oh god, she's hot.
She walked up to the microphone, her voice husky. "Thank you to everyone who supported my move here. I've heard great things about Fir Hollow and I'm excited to be here."
Principal Lokes leans into the microphone. "We're all so glad you picked Fir Hollow and we can't wait to sit back and watch you succeed."
By now, I'm pretty sure I look like I could murder someone. This is bad. Extremely bad.
"Ms. Lewis, have you gotten a tour of our wonderful school yet?" Questions Principal Lokes.
"Uh, no I haven't yet, do you have someone who could give me a tour?" Paisley replies.
"What homeroom do you have Ms. Lewis?"
She pulls a brochure and a schedule out of her back pocket. "I have Mr. Jayes."
I pinch myself to make sure this is reality and not hell. Yup, definitely reality. Oh god.
Principal Lokes nods. "Well, I'm sure anyone of them would love to show you around. I actually have a list in my coat pocket of homerooms. You could give it a look to see if you recognize any names." He hands the paper over to Paisley and she slowly reads it over. She looks it up with a devilish grin.
"I actually do recognize one of the names. Would Ms. Heighten be available to show me around this fine institution?"
Principal Lokes grins. "I'm sure Brooke would love to show you around."
By now I'm slouching in my seat hoping Paisley doesn't see me but for some reason god hates my guts and she recognizes me with a cocky grin on her face.
"I actually see her right there. Do you mind if she takes me on that tour now?"
I could punch her. It's not like I haven't punched her before. She has a very punchable face.
Principal Lokes nods vigorously. "Of course Paisley. We're all so glad you're here."
"Thank you sir. I'm thrilled to be here."
Principal Lokes looks like he's about to die smiling and he has the most minor reaction out of everyone. All the cheerleaders look like they want Paisley to rip their tiny little skirts off. But they don't know her like I do.
Paisley hops off stage and starts jogging down the aisle. Exchanging winks grins, and handshakes with all the popular kids. She gets to my aisle and offers a hand to help me up with a smirk across her face. I'm pretty sure me and Mr. Jayes are the only ones who don't give into her charm and that's because Mr. Jayes is like 90 percent blind and I hate her guts. I scoff and brush past her into the aisle. I startle her and she starts jogging backwards to catch up to me.
"Whoa babe, slow down."
"Don't call me babe dickhead." I snarl back.
She laughs. "Last time I checked I didn't have one of those. Do you wanna check for me Brooke?"
By now we're out of the auditorium. I turn around with my arms crossed.
"Look, we both know I don't like you, okay? You can go fuck with other girls but just leave me alone. I don't want anything to do with you after everything that happened. I will never want anything to do with you ever again Paisley."
She looks shocked. We stand in silence for a while before she manages to form words.
She smirks. "Looks like someone's still hung up on me."
I throw my hands up in frustration. "Let's just go on this stupid tour and then you can go flirt with the cheerleaders and I can go wherever you aren't."
"Whatever you say babe." She smirks, bowing down and letting me lead the way.
