I head down the hall after ninth period, ready to leave, before I hear someone yelling my name. It's Paisley.

"Brooke, wait!"

I groan. She catches up with me, out of breath and holds up a hand.

"I... was just wondering where we were meeting." She pants, finally getting enough air to stand up.

I look at her in confusion before remembering I'm supposed to be tutoring her today. Dammit. "The library. I was just heading there to wait."

Paisley tilts her head in confusion and points back to the way she came. "Isn't the library that way?"

I turn a crimson red. "Um... I was going the long way. Ya know, to get more exercise."

She nods, trying to keep the smirk off her face. "So you were just going to wait an hour and a half for me to get out of practice?"

"Well, yeah. What else would I do?"

"You could go home, and we could just meet up at your house." She muttered, looking down at her sneakers. "But if that's like crossing a line or something you could watch."

"Watch what?" I question, hoping it sounds better than the first option. I don't want to have to spend hours awkwardly sitting in my bedroom with her, trying not to remember what happened between us in that very room.

"Football practice."

I snort. "You think I wanna watch you practice football?"

"Well, I just thought since your brother is on the team, and Matt's on the team that you'd want to see them. Not me. Duh. Why would you want to see me?. You hate me."

She's rambling now and I have to force myself not to smile. I hate her for what she did. Right?

"Sure."

She looks up in surprise. "What?"

"I'll go. It beats being in the library. But not for you."

Her eyes light up. "Okay I'll see you there. Or not. Like do you want me to acknowledge you or not?"

"Just play football Jay."

She looks shocked. I haven't used that nickname in forever. I wanted my own nickname for her, so I used her middle name, Jayne, and got Jay. I wasn't supposed to say that. Dammit. I nod behind her.

"I'm just gonna go to the library. Just come when you're done Lewis." I push past her and head to the library before she can say anything.

When I get into the library, I head to an empty table towards the back. Before I reach it though, I hear a familiar voice.

It's Jayden. She's talking to one of the librarians at the front desk about a book.

"Yeah the ending of that one was really bad." She says, laughing.

"Hey J!" I say, excited to see someone know.

She turns around and grins at me. "Hey, just the person I was looking for!"

"You were looking for me?" I ask, confused.

"Yeah I knew you'd have to wait for her and I didn't want you to have to wait alone. Plus I figured that you'd pick the library since you basically live here."

"Hey!" I protest. "That's not true. Right Marie?"

The older librarian looks at me with a smile on her face. "I love you dear, but this young lady is right. You do tend to spend a lot of time here."

"I thought we were friends Marie." I cry out, pretending to be offended.

I grab Jayden's arm. "We'll be in the back unless you want to burst my ego some more."

We walk away to the sound of their laughter.

An hour later, I have accomplished none of my work, and I'm bending over in a fit of laughter when I hear a throat clearing behind me. I sit up and see Paisley, looking extremely uncomfortable, but when she sees who I'm with she smirks.

"How's the stomach Fuller?" Paisley questions, a smirk on her face.

Jayden stands up and motions to Paisley's busted lip. "How's the lip?"

Paisley pretends to ponder the question. "Fine, but I wonder if I can still kiss with it. Wanna help me test that Brooke?"

Jayden snarls and moves closer to Paisley, sizing her up. "You sure talk a lot of shit Lewis, but your fists sure as hell can't keep up."

Paisley smirks. "Is that a threat, Fuller? Cause we both know you won't make a move with your little girlfriend standing here?"

Jayden stiffens. "Wanna bet?"

"Well, Jayden here was just leaving and Paisley was just about to shut her fucking mouth, isn't that right ladies?"

Paisley grimaces before sitting down. I grab Jayden's arm and walk her to the library door. "I'm sorry for Paisley, but thanks for staying with me today. It was really fun."

She grins. "I had fun too Brooke." She leans down and kisses my cheek before leaving.

I take a deep breath before heading back over to Paisley. She's lounging on the couch with her phone in her hand.

She looks up at me. "You ready?"

I cock an eyebrow at her. "Are you ready?"

She shrugs. "Fair point. I wasn't sure what to bring."

"Just a notebook, I think."

An hour goes by pretty quickly and we start packing our stuff up.

"Same time tomorrow?" I ask.

She nods, "Sounds good. Do you need a ride?"

"Nah. I'll call Devin."

She shrugs. "Okay. See you tomorrow Brooke."

I watch her leave, then grab my bag. I'm sure Devin can't pick me up and Jake and Matt are both at a party tonight, so I guess I'll just have to walk home. I'm halfway down the street our school is on when I notice I'm being followed. I start to pick up my pace, but a familiar face pokes her head out the window.

"Need a ride?"

It's Paisley.

"Again, what part of us not being friends did you not get?

She rolls her eyes. "Just swallow your pride and get in, Brooke. It's going to storm soon, and you're going to regret it."

I look up at the sky, and sure enough, the clouds are darkening and bunching together. I groan, before stepping off the curb and into Paisley's car. It's a lexus, and I'm sure it's worth as much as my house.

She pulls away from the curb and we're off. I slouch in my seat, uncomfortable being this close to Paisley. She looks over and raises an eyebrow, but wisely chooses not to comment. Ten minutes later she pulls up in front of my house, and I awkwardly get out and give her a little wave as she drives away.

I sigh. Senior year is going to be harder than I thought.
