Chap 26: The Things We Don't Say

Mondays were simply the worst, it was always a slow day and worse? We have this seminar in school today for all senior students. Alumni, professionals and other distinguished guests were invited to speak to us on career development and future planning , preparing for university, handling academic pressure and life after high school, and so on.

We all sat at the school auditorium while the seminar goes on. The principal has already given the opening speech. One guest speaker is talking about career choices and I zoned out after that .

I'm bored

"This is so boring" Danny complained beside me as he yawned loudly

I couldn't agree more

Mike was already sleeping beside me with his head resting on his right hand

Then I notice Adah sitting a few rows away with Amaka, Janet and Cynthia.

Ever since we almost kissed at my house, we haven't really had a proper conversation, something always interrupted us and I miss her

She looked so lost while fiddling with the pen between her fingers, obviously not listening to the speaker while her friends chatted away

But every few minutes her eyes wander...

Towards Nifemi.

The first time I didn't think too much about it until the second and third time. I start watching her instead of the speaker on the podium

Did something happen?

Looking to where Nifemi was standing he didn't seem to notice her gaze and was paying attentively to whatever the speaker was saying

Why does she keep staring at him like that and looking lost in her own thoughts?

I'll ask her later during lunch break

The second speaker starts talking on university and future planning and my eyes are already heavy with sleep.

The principal notices more than half of the students aren't paying attention anymore, some chatting, some sleeping and some snickering at the back. He signals the head boy and head girl, and few other teachers to coordinate the students properly.

Mr Ade wasn't having the drowsy look on my face and kept glaring at me, I rolled my eyes while forcing myself to sit upright and appear more awake.

I had to wake Danny and Mike up to do the same before he got to our row.

Too tired for any drama from this man right now.

Nifemi approaches the row Adah and the girls are sitting in to stop the girls from their occasional laughter and chatting

Adah completely avoids Nifemi's eyes while he tried talking to her and laughed awkwardly

He seemed to be very unbothered and acted normal

Something definitely happened between those two.

Few hours later, the seminar was finally over and it was lunch break. After the closing session, the guest speakers left and every student rushed out immediately after.

"Finally! I thought I'd have to starve to death" Danny said getting up

"Class first or straight to the cafeteria?" Mike joked

"Is that supposed to be a question?" Danny scowled at Mike for asking something like that

"Let's go before Danny faints" I laughed
