A/N: Extra chapter extra soon! Today I received the amazing news that I was selected to study an Autumn semester in Moscow this year. Incredibly happy & eager to go, if COVID-19 of course lets me. Thought I'd use my happy energy for this chapter ❤️
Joanne was squeezing his hand tightly and Charles was sure he wouldn't be able to feel his hand anymore soon, yet he didn't say anything and let her hold him as tight and as hard as she wanted
to. The sweat was glistening on her forehead and some strands of her hair stuck to her face as she was trying to control her breathing. Five hours had passed, the night had fallen and it was time for her to give birth. She was crying, he could see it and he couldn't imagine the immense pain that must go through her lower body at the moment. "You're doing great, Joanne, just keep pushing her out". The nurses said, surrounding her, another one making sure she'd take deep breaths and pushed heavily each time. "She's almost there, mon ange". Charles spoke, his hand moving over her forehead to push her hair back. Joanne leaned her head further back, huffing deeply. Strangled cries came out of her mouth, but she knew it was over soon and she couldn't wait to hold their baby girl. Hot tears stuck to her face and she closed her eyes, giving one last push and her body's tension faded a little. The nurses and a doctor were quick to handle, cutting through the umbilical cord and she was wrapped up in a pink towel and a blanket. After a couple seconds, the little girl started to sniffle and soon she started crying. The nurse moved over to Joanne, giving her the baby into her arms. "Oh my". Charles said, feeling an overwhelming wave of emotions washing over him, his eyes prickling when he saw their little baby on Joanne's chest. Joanne looked up at him with a tired smile, her fingers softly caressing the baby's cheek. "Teresa Beatrice Leclerc". Charles said, sitting on the side of her bed and looked at their baby. Joanne held the baby while the nurses did some quick examinations, soon stating that Teresa was perfectly healthy. Her crying had softened and Joanne looked back up at him. "Hold her, please". She said and he gladly nodded, gently and so carefully taking their daughter into his arms. "Little princess". Charles said, his eyes watery while he held the beautiful girl. Her cheeks were soft and she put her mouth to his finger, making him chuckle.
"You can breastfeed her, Joanne". The nurse announced and helped Joanne to sit up a little more and to get her hospital wear further down. Charles carefully handed her back to Joanne, looking at the way Teresa was guided to Joanne's breast. "My gorgeous girls". Charles kissed Joanne's cheek. "Joanne, Charles, congratulations with your little girl". The midwife spoke up. "In the next few hours we will give her two injections. One is with vitamin K and the second injection is for Hepatitis B. We will run a few more medical checks and you will be able to rest. Tomorrow will be her first bath and you can freshen up of course too". She informed the couple. "Alright". Joanne said and it was clearly visible that she was tired. "And then? Will she be able to go home?". Charles asked, standing up straight. "Most definitely, Joanne did great and the birth of your baby went without any trouble. She has done this before, she we trust that Joanne will recover and the baby will be fine". The midwife said with a smile. "For now, I suggest you rest well. It has been an intense night nevertheless". She continued. Charles nodded and looked back down at Joanne and their baby, the image something he had already fallen in love with.
"I'll stay here, alright? I'll be close". Charles muttered and Joanne nodded at him. He smiled and his fingers under her chin lifted her face so he could kiss her. "I'm going to make a call home". He said and he hesitantly moved to the hallway, knowing she was safe, but he just wanted to stay with her all the time. Mick was still seated there, his hand resting under his head and his eyes were closed. The poor boy had fallen asleep after it had been a long wait. "Hey, Mick". Charles gently squeezed his arm, causing him to open his eyes. "Joanne gave birth about half an hour ago". Charles informed him and Mick's eyes lit up. "Did she? Can I look? Oh, no I'll give her some time". Mick said, ready to stand up, but he remained seated instead. "You can look, I'm sure she'd like it". Charles said and Mick nodded. He watched Mick quietly get into the room and Charles felt more comfortable that someone was with her. Charles took his phone in his hand and dialed Pierre's number. "Charles, is everything alright?". Pierre immediately asked. "It's perfect". Charles replied. "She gave birth, it's amazing". He dreamily sighed.
