liam smiled at ian through the rearview and started the car, turning on the radio and placing his hand on mickey's thigh. mickey grabbed his hand and sqeezed it shortly, but didn't do anything else. showing affection with someone around wasn't really what he liked to do.
showing affection in general was something hard to do for him. mickey grew up in an abusive household and didn't experienced any kind of love all through his childhood and teenage years. now with nineteen years he was lucky enough to have liam.
"alright, ian. we came here for some mcdonald's, but pizza is alright too, right?" liam asked and drove off of the parking lot, heading to his home.
ian nodded even though he wasn't hungry. not all, actually. he's lost his appetite, he felt like puking at the thought of food. but he didn't wanted to be a party pooper and ruin the night for the two. that's the last thing he'd want to do.
so he smiled back at liam, "yeah, that's completely fine." his voice was quiet, quite broken and tired if you paid enough attention to the boy in the backseat. liam didn't, his attenttion was on the road. but hey, we'll see. maybe he'll notice in the near future.
mickey did notice though. well, a little bit. he noticed the sadness dripping in ian's voice, he noticed the way he was more quiet than usual. he always looked a bit tired and sick, but now it was so much more clearer. the bags under ian's eyes were not to be overlooked, his eyes were red and his posture was just so much worse.
he dragged himself sluggishly through the day, even though you could see how exhausted he was. the joy was gone, he looked empty. as if the ian he knew was gone and was replaced with this spiritless ian.
it was silent for the rest of the car ride, the only thing making noise was the radio. luckily, it wasn't a very long ride. they arrived at liam's small home in just a few minutes, making the uneasy silence disappear.
inside, they were greeted by liam's parents. they were nice and ian felt quite at home here. karen and geoff were total sweethearts to the boy. and dear god. mothers have a sense for everything.
she too noticed the way ian was acting. of course it could've just been the fact that ian is a shy person, which she knew for a fact wasn't, but the thing was just that his body language, his behaviour and appearance gave his broken heart away.
the three young adults were only downstairs for a couple of minutes, they drank tea with liam's parents and chatted a bit about school and life in general. karen tried to distract ian from whatever that was going on in his mind at the moment.
it's been a while since ian was here and seeing him this exhausted was breaking karen's heart. sometimes it felt like ian was her own son, she cared for him. and that's why she tried so desperately to just make ian smile again, get him out of his endless pondering, but there was no chance that he was going to break the chain of just zaynzaynzaynzayn in his mind.
the only relevant thing to ian was his ex-boyfriend, when it was so clear that he wasn't experiencing these butterflies anymore. well, ian wasn't either. love used to be all butterflies and this weird tingly feeling in his chest. this was was told him that he fell in love with the pakistani. but now it's just the pain. nothing more, nothing less. sometimes emptiness, but mostly pain.
by now, he was seriously questioning his decision of agreeing to come to liam. sure, it was nice to spend some time with his old friend again, but then again ian couldn't really enjoy it. and these pityful looks from liam weren't making things any better.
he knew that liam didn't wanted to make ian uncomfortable with the small glances full of pity. hell, maybe he didn't even noticed that he was throwing these glances towards ian. fact was, ian didn't liked it and so he focused on mickey instead.
luckily, he was paying more attention to his teddy bear of a boyfriend and not the ginger. but he did looked at ian every once in a while, just to make sure he was fine, because it was quite obvious that he was not.
liam did his best to involve ian in the conversation that was going on, but it was hard when ian wasn't focused on anything but zayn and kept zoning out.
to liam, it alsmost seemed like ian didn't wanted to be there and that was breaking his big heart. because he really did liked ian, the two used to be very close. nearly like niall and harry. but just nearly. no one could compare to these two.
the two had a lot of fun together, having sleepovers nearly everyday and their parents already getting used to each other. staying up until it was time to get up again and not being tired but happy and giddy because life was good.
liam knew zayn before ian did, they were just friends. you know, the people you see in the hallway, you smile at them because you know them and that's it. that's how liam and louis started, too. until ian left liam for zayn and then they drifted apart.
it was a hard time for liam to just let ian go, keep on living without his best friend being there. no more calls until late at night, no more stupid chats and endless laughters. they were just another unforgotten contact in their phones.
that's why liam was grateful to have louis and mickey by his side. louis was a person to just like sit and admire what he's like. he had his own problems to deal with, his own inner demons to fight with even thought they never fucking fight fair and yet he always puts others in front of himself.
that was another reason why liam was protective over louis and when he was having a bad dream again or couldn't stop his tears from falling, he was always there for him no matter what. they just helped each other out.
and when mickey stepped into his life (quite literally), everything was just going uphill again. with just a little help of his friends, everything worked out again. and even though he couldn't help but look at ian with desperate in his eyes whenever they crossed ways, liam could smile again, because he had evrything he needed. and maybe, just maybe, ian could be a part of his life again, too.
after meaningless conversation, mainly from mickey and liam, someone rang the doorbell downstairs. liam shot a smile in ian's direction, still unaware about his pityful eyes, and got up from his bed.
"that should be our pizza" he said and grinned at mickey, the pity gone and replaced with nothing but love and affection.
so liam went downstairs, leaving the two boys who were unfamiliar with each other alone in his room. mickey crossed his arms under his head and closed his eyes, listening to the quiet conversation downstairs with the pizzaman.
"zayn's a douchebag, you know that, right?" mickey asked in a raspy voice, not even bothering to open his eyes because he knew that ian wasn't looking at him anyway.
he was though. and he hated mickey for saying this stuff about zayn. "you don't know him" ian answered quietly, eyeing the blue eyed boy up and down. he was relaxed and he seemed happy.
mickey snorted at ian's comment and shook his head, an annoyed tone taking over in his voice which made ian feel bad. "i know him well enough that he hurt you" mickey said and finally opened his eyes to look at ian and raised his brows at him.
ian was a bit taken aback. how did everyone that zayn broke up with him? "he didn't.." ian started but cut off by another snort from mickey.
"cut the bullshit, man. i know that he hurt you bad and i want you to know that he's a fucking douche for that crap. i know he cheated, i know-" "stop talking" ian interrupted him and swallowed the lump in his throat so as not to start crying again. he's cried enough.
he took a deep breath and build up all the courage he had to speak more than just three words. "listen, thanks for your concern and all but just stop talking, please. you're not helping in any way" ian said and bit down on his lip. mickey had his mouth slightly open and ran a hand over his face, putting on a smile as liam entered the room with three pizza cartons.
"good talk" mickey said to ian and grabbed a carton from liam, opening it and passed it over to ian.
"margarita, it's yours" he said and shot him a smile. not a pityful one, an understanding one. maybe mickey wasn't too bad after all.
i gotta stop now haha. i apologize for any mistakes and the lack of conversation in the frist 1.200 words oops. i hope you still enjoyed and have good night/day & stay safe! :)
