Harry caught the slight blush that now tinted Louis's cheeks and his grin faded into a soft, fond smile. He slid a leg inbetween Louis's under the table, nudging at one at one of Louis's knees with his own.
"No need to be embarrassed" He said and shrugged, "I slept with a nightlight 'til I was seven."
"I was eleven, Harry, eleven!"
Louis hid his red face behind his hands and shook his head, wanting the crimson colour to disappear from his cheeks.
Harry nudged his knee one more time and then took Louis's hands in his own. "It's fine" He said and shrugged again, "No big deal."
A grin made its way to Harry's mouth and Louis couldn't help but grin back stupidly. Soon enough, the two boys laughed loudly, throwing their heads back and clutching at their stomachs.
To any other person, they must've looked like maniacs or some shit, but they couldn't care less. To them, they were just two boys who were enjoying life, even if it was just for a few hours before the dark clouds clouded their heads again.
Louis breathed in deeply and slowly managed to calm down and watched as Harry did the same. Huge smiles were on their faces, the crinkles by their eyes were visible and damn, it felt good.
"Okay" Louis said and plopped the remainder of the sandwhich, that Harry made for him, into his mouth and nodded slowly.
"Okay" Harry said back and smiled softly, folding his hands on the table and scanned Louis's face.
He seemed quite .. happy. Relaxed? Yeah, that must be it. Louis was calm. Perhaps his thoughts were leaving him alone for some time.
At the thought of Louis having peace inside of his head, Harry couldn't help but let the smile grow bigger, until Louis lifted an eyebrow.
"What's the reason for that big smile there?" Louis asked and poked his finger into one of Harry's dimples, which made him laugh quietly and look down on the table.
He shrugged, "Don't know, I'm just happy."
Louis allowed himself to copy Harry's big smile and nodded slowly. "Alright. Anyhting embarrassing you wanna share with me?" He asked challenging and squinted his eyes at him, pursing his lips and lifting his chin up.
Harry thought for a moment, thinking back to all the stupid stuff he's done in the past (which are a lot of things). The endless cat encounters which ended up being a race, falling from a tree, wrestling with Niall and spraining his ankle in result.
In the end, he settled on the horse thing. "Remember when I told you that I fell from a horse like a week ago?" He asked and earned a nod from Louis who eyed him suspiciously.
He chuckled and continued, "I broke my arm after I fell. I have no idea how, but I landed pretty hard on my arm."
Louis only stared at him, the corners of his mouth twitching suspiciously. Harry narrowed his eyes, tilting his head to the side slightly.
"Are you laughing at me?" "No" Louis said immediately and shook his head, "Absolutely not."
A snort escaped Louis's mouth as he tried to hold back his laughter, but failing miserably because he leaned forward and let it all out.
The image of Harry falling from a horse was on repeat.
Harry gasped offended and slapped Louis's arm lightly. "Hey!" He said and pouted, crossing his arms over his chest and tried to fight the urge to smile.
Louis was way too cute. The way his messy hair was bouncing up and down, the crinkles by his eyes as he laughed and just the fact that Louis was laughing at all was reason enough for Harry to let the smile take over him.
He calmed down and wiped a tear away, a small smile still present. Harry furrowed his brows, worry visible on his face. "Hey, are you crying?" He asked gently and leaned forward.
Louis nodded and smiled, "Happy tears, thanks to you."
Harry let out a sigh of relief and shook his head, the soft and fond smile never leaving.
"You gave me a heart attack, man."
Louis grinned and shrugged innocently. "Oops?"
Harry gave him a lopsided grin and leaned back into his chair, shaking his head lightly.
A wave of silence washed over them. Both of them didn't minded that none of them was speaking. After all, there were students all around them yelling stupid things.
Louis closed his eyes and sighed satisfied. He hasn't felt that good for a while. It was starting to worry him. Something bad always happened when things were going good. And this something was Harry, and that was what bugged Louis the most."Hey, uh, I have a question" Harry started, which peaked Louis's interest and made him open his eyes again. "Mhm" He hummed as a sign that he was listening to Harry.
"Do you want to come over for dinner, maybe? Mom invited you" Harry suggested, trying to sound as casual and relaxed as possible, while he was sure that his heart would jump right out of his chest any given second.
He kind of wanted Louis to accept the invitation, it meant that he could spend more time with him. But at the same time, he was worried that he would make a fool out of himself. Or worse, that his mom would say something very embarrassing or even show some old photos.
So, basically, whatever Louis had to say to this offer, Harry would like to die on the spot.
Louis bit down on his lip, guilt washing over him as he shook his head. "I'm sorry" He said and shrugged, feeling as bad as ever, "I can't just leave my sisters at home, you know? I gotta take care of 'em."
Harry nodded, he understood. It was fine. He knew by now what was going on at Louis's home anyway.
"Okay, that's fine" Harry said and smiled genuinely at him, "Do you want me to come over and bring some dinner? I can help watch the girls."
Louis looked up from the dirty table and back at his .. yeah, what were they? Best friends?
Excitement filled his eyes as he nodded, "That would be cool."
Harry smiled at him, making a mental note to ask his mom to cook something with him and prepare a nice dinner for the Tomlinson's.
"Okay" Harry simply said and packed his lunch back in his bag as the bell rang. They had P.E. now and Harry really wasn't in the mood for it. Not that he was before. He would probably just stand there and talk with Niall and ..
Right. Niall.
His eyes widened in schock. "Niall" He breathed out and noticed the confusion written all over Louis's face. "Niall?" He asked and all Harry could do was nod.
He quickly slung his bag over his shoulder and stood up, watching as Louis did the same. "Is he okay? What's wrong, Haz?" Louis asked and furrowed his brows, following Harry outside and to the dressing rooms.
They used to be always early for P.E. because they both didn't liked to change in front of everyone.
Harry quickened his walking, not taking notice of Louis who was fast walking behind him. "Hey there giraffe, slow down" He said and caught up to him, grabbing his arm to stop him.
"Mind telling me what's going on?" He asked, voice thick with genuine concern.
Harry shook his head, grabbing Louis's hand and tugged him along. This time Louis was able to keep up with him.
Little did they know that Eleanor was watching them from afar as hurt washed over her. The neglecting didn't left her as cold as Niall thought it would be.
Drama :))
