trigger warning for blood and violence.

it was dark, the treetops blocked out the moonlight so that louis was stumbling blindly through the forest. he was running as fast as he could, even though he knew that he won't ever be fast enough.

he didn't needed to turn around to see who was chasing him. or what was chasing him.

it wasn't human. in fact, louis himself didn't really knew what it was. he just knew that it was tall, very tall, and had legs and arms like sticks. it had no face.

their fingers were long and bony. they were cold. everything was cold. it was freezing. perhaps the cold came with this thing. perhaps the cold was just a part of it all.

whatever it was, louis hated it with every inch of his small body. he hated these woods, he hated the feeling of running in circles, he hated those loud deafening screams that this thing was constantly emitting, he hated the cold he was surrounded of, he hated being stuck in his dreams and not waking up before everyone he loved and cared about was dead.

louis hated it all.

he collapsed into the dirt, accepting defeat once again. he just laid there, mud and blood covering his body as the nearly silent steps came closer and closer to him.

everything hurt. the branches scratched his face, arms and legs. the roots made his bare feet sore. he was so tired of running away. but he knew that if he would just dare to look at this horrible thing, stand up to it, it would only get worse.

his breathing picked up as the loudeat scream of them all told him that it has arrived. louis saw nothing. it was dark.

"louis" his mother whispered into the night. it sounded so much like her. louis wished it was really her. but he knew better.

the first time this happened, he was foolish enough to waste his energy and turn around to look at his mother in hopes of her looking healthier than the state she was in.

his mother's voice was soothing, it was calming him down. it used to be like this. her voice used to be soft. but now it was scratchy and she could barely speak at all.

louis curled up into a ball and clutched onto his knees. "no" he whispered and squeezed his eyes shut, the tears now mixing with all the dirt and blood.

he dug his dirty fingernails into his skin, trying to concentrate on this pain instead of the one in his heart.

"louis." her voice was more strict now, decisive. she wanted him to turn around and go through all of this again.

louis knew what would happen. he knew that it would hurt his soul. but he knew that he had to give in. he had to see this horrible picture again to wake up again. otherwise he'd be stuck here forever. he hated it.

and so louis slowly stopped digging his nails into his skin and turned onto his back, small stones gouging into his wounds.

"please stop" he said in a small and broken voice. no response. there would never be a response. this thing would never answer him. it would only hurt him.

she said his name again, this time her voice was filled with pain. louis threw his head back and let a loud scream escape his throat as the first drops of blood landed on his face.

he turned his face to the left unwillingly and stared at his mother. the thing held her up with two of their fingers while they slowly drilled a hole in his mother's belly with their other hand. blood flowed like waterfall.

louis continued crying as his mother spat words he wished to never hear again. "you disgrace" she said with a husky voice, blood now coming out of her mouth as well.

she laughed loudly, "you disgusting peace of shit. you can't even get up and save your own mother. you won't ever save me."

louis shook his head like a wet dog and stared into his mother's face. it hurt him to hear those words coming out of her mouth, he hated seeing her grossed out by her own son, he hated seeing this thing killing his mother.

"why?" louis cried out, but his mother only laughed again, the dark figure now screaming again. louis covered his ears with his dirty hands and shut his eyes, trying to ignore the ringing noise in his head.

it always happened at the end. it was never a happy end.

"you could have saved me" she whispered, falling to the ground because this thing let her go.

louis jerked up from his sleep, sweat covering his forehead and the same ringing sound was in his head while his mother's last words were on loop.

you could have saved me.

he quickly looked to his side, seeing harry peacefully sleeping with his mouth slightly open. light snores escaped his lips.

louis shook his head and buried his face in his hands, his skin hurting from the pain he's caused himself while being asleep.

silently, louis started crying. he desperately tried to stay silent to not wake any of his siblings or harry up.

why did this always had to happen? louis wanted it to stop, he couldn't carry this anymore. he couldn't watch everyone die.

his siblings, his mother, liam, eleanor and recently harry and niall as well. he just couldn't keep going like this.

it was hurting him to live with their last words engraved into his brain. you could have saved me.

the feeling of regret and guilt were constantly keeping him company, they were making him feel even more worse. like he's worth nothing.

tears collected at the nape of his neck as his body was shaking. he bit down on his lip to keep in his sobs until he could taste blood in his mouth.

"louis?" harry asked sleepily, making the older boy visibly tense. he cleared his throat, trying not to sound broken. "yeah?"

his plan didn't worked out. he sounded as broken as a human being could sound. harry slowly inched closer and put a hand on his shoulder, a small gesture asking for more.

louis couldn't hold it back any longer. he turned around and crumpled against harry's, body wrecking sobs taking over him.

harry remembered the way liam just held him, and so he just squeezed louis as close as possible and kissed his hair.

he didn't say a word. louis didn't needed words right now. all he needed was proximity and harry was there to give it to him.

and so he held louis like he did yesterday, thinking what on earth louis was dreaming about that it was causing him to react like this.

i hope this was okay. um, i hope u enjoyed and have an amazing day. stay safe, yeah?
