You and Kili stopped just outside the reach of the light from the Troll's fire. They could not see you, but you could clearly see everything happening in the clearing. The Trolls held Bilbo and were questioning him, but it was hard to understand what they were saying.
You looked at Kili and put a finger to your lips, using silent hand signals to show that he was to be the primary distraction and that you would sneak around behind the trolls to rescue Bilbo.
Kili nodded in understanding and tightened his grip on his sword before walking into the clearing and shouting at the trolls. With Kili distracting the trolls, you easily made your way behind them and expertly slicing the leg of the troll that held Bilbo.
The troll screeched in pain and dropped Bilbo, letting him fall to the ground only a few feet from where you stood. You ran between the troll's legs, grabbed ahold of Bilbo and pulled him to the edge of the clearing.
"Get out of here Master Baggins!" you shouted while pushing him out of the way of a swinging blow from one of the trolls. He nods in fear but his resolve quickly strengthens as he runs out of the reach of the firelight and towards the pens where the stolen ponies were being held.
By now, the rest of the company had arrived brandishing their weapons and fighting the three mountain trolls. One of the trolls had a hold of Kili and was lifting him off the ground. Fili noticed as well and caught your eyes in the heat of battle and shouted for you. You ran towards him with unknown speed as he knelt down and allowed you to use him as a launching pad, shooting you into the air and allowing you to slice at the arm of the troll that held Kili. The three of you landed in a heap on the ground but quickly regained your composure and went back into the fray.
After a few minutes of fighting you were able to create enough space to take a breath, you smiled as you glanced over and saw Master Baggins freeing the ponies from their pens unnoticed.
When you turned back towards the battle you were just able to see two of the trolls snatch Thorin and hold him tightly high up in the air. "Lay down yer arms, or we'll rip his off," the largest troll snickered.
The entire company looked to you in the absence of their primary leadership. You held your sword tightly while locking eyes with Thorin, you could see the genuine shame in them, but the resolve that said not to surrender. You shook your head at him, "do not ask me to watch you die," you whispered although you knew he heard it, then you slowly lowered your weapon to the ground and everyone surrounding you did the same.
In no time, you were all bound either on the ground or on a spit that hung over a fire. Fili was placed over the fire with most of the others, but Kili, Thorin, Bilbo and yourself were laid on the ground and forced to watch your friends slowly cook in the heat of the fire.
Your one saving grace was the fact that Gandalf was not with the company when they entered the clearing, he was still out there somewhere, but you had to buy some time. Bilbo seemed to come to the same conclusion as he stood up and began talking to the trolls. However, you were not listening, you caught Fili's eyes above the fire and could see the carefully disguised fear in them. You nodded to him trying to give him any small comfort, but you became distracted by Thorin as he started whispering to you.
"We would not be in this mess, had you ordered them to fight," he whispered.
You turned to him, irritation in your tone, "and you would be dead, is that what you would have wanted?"
"It seems as though we are about to be dead anyway," he hissed.
"Uncle-" Kili began picking up on your whispers.
Thorin cut him off, "are you saying you could not defeat three stupid trolls?"
You hissed back at him, "not before they ripped your limbs off."
You and Thorin went back and forth for a few minutes, completely ignoring what was happening in the clearing until a loud voice yelled above the commotion, "The Dawn will take you all!" You glanced over just in time to see Gandalf break a stone giving the sunlight a direct path to the trolls and turning them into stone.
You sighed in relief as Gandalf helped a few out of their bonds. Bilbo ran to you quickly and helped to cut the ropes that entrapped you, "there you go, my lady," he said a slight pink tone touching his cheeks.
You patted your shoulder, "Thank you master Baggins, for your quick thinking as well." Then you rushed off to embrace Fili, who had just been released from the spit above the fire. He quickly opened his arms and you ran into them and he wrapped you in a tight hug.
"Did you miss me?" he said jokingly as you pulled away. Kili had walked over to you both now and you wrapped him in a tight hug as well.
"Not at all, I was ready to be rid of the trouble you caused," you joked, nudging Fili on the arm.
"That whole thing was mostly Kili," Fili joked, nudging his brother.
You smiled at them and looked around to make sure everyone else was okay. You noticed that Thorin and Gandalf had disappeared. But you decided to focus on the others as you all set up your bedrolls and moved your things to this clearing, choosing to use it as cover for the day and get some rest.
After a while Thorin and Gandalf appeared again and Thorin made a beeline for you, "My lady, a word?" He asked politely while bowing his head. You nodded in response and followed him to a secluded area not far from the others. Kili was watching you both the whole time before turning to Fili and likely filling him in on your argument with Thorin.
Thorin looked down at his feet, for the first time in a long time he was nervous, "(Y/N), I am so sorry for the things I said, I should have been grateful that you were willing to do that to save my life, I promise to be more understanding and grateful in the future."
You placed a hand on his arm causing him to look up and meet your eyes, "I forgive you, Thorin, I know you did not mean the things you said."
He looked at you gratefully and continued, "There was a troll hoard in the cave nearby that I looked at with Gandalf," he began, "I found a few swords in there, this one reminded me of you," He finished carefully placing the blade in your hands.
It was beautiful with intricate designs along the blade and the handle all coming to a curved point at the top of the blade. You smiled as you ran your hands across the designs. Thorin seemed to like your reaction as he smiled back at you, "Gandalf said that it was forged by -"
"Elves," you cut him off. He seemed surprised at your knowledge. "It was forged by elves during the first age, this script here gives it away, it is a symbol of protection used by the woodland elves. The metal used is also of special forging with the light of the stars in mind with every twist of the steel," you said, still admiring the craftsmanship.
"Well I am glad it suits you." Thorin responded before nodding and taking a few steps away from you.
"Thorin," you called, causing him to turn around, "thank you."
"Anything for my Queen," he stated, "Goodnight,(Y/N)."
You brushed your hand on his arm before whispering goodnight and walking back over to where you placed your bedroll. You laid the beautiful sword next to you and quickly drifted off to sleep.
