You emerged into the warm light taking a deep breath as Gandalf stopped the company at a clearing about a half mile aware from the mountain.
"Are we sure we weren't followed?" Dwalin asked.
Gandalf regained his breath, "they would have caught up to us by now if we were."
You looked around a smile on your face as you looked at the company, safe and sound. Until you realized you were one short, "where is Bilbo?"
Thorin looked at you wide-eyed, "he was with us, wasn't he?"
"I thought I saw him when we first fell," Bofur added.
You shook your head, "I am going back for him."
Kili grabbed your arm, "it's too dangerous."
"I will not leave him behind, he came here to help us," you exclaimed, "we must go back for him."
Thorin stood in your way, "there is no way I am letting you go back there."
You stepped up to him, challenging him, "get out of my way Thorin."
He stood his ground, "not a chance."
You thought for a moment, staring him down before you reached a foot around his knee and it buckled to the ground. He looked up at you from one knee, "I'll be back," you said, walking around him and taking off at a run towards the mountain.
Thorin brushed himself off and stood as Gandalf came to rest next to him, "she is an extraordinary warrior," the wizard mused.
Thorin nodded, watching you disappear into the distance, "she is."
—---------------------------
You arrived at the mouth of the cave, taking a deep breath before entering the darkness again. You gripped your sword tightly, creeping through the stone. "Bilbo," you whispered into the dark, "Bilbo?"
You suddenly heard the patter of feet on stone, "(Y/N), is that you?"
You moved towards the voice, "yes, I am here."
You went down a side tunnel until it opened up into a large cavern, "(Y/N)," the voice called again.
"Bilbo, where are you?" you whispered.
From out behind a large rock, Bilbo appeared, "I got lost down here, I was starting to think you all kept going."
You sighed in relief and wrapped Bilbo in a tight embrace, "we made it out of the cave, the others are waiting in a clearing outside."
Bilbo nodded, "do you remember the way out."
You chuckled, "I was born to the glittering caves, of course I know how to navigate them."
Bilbo laughed lightly before following you out of the cave and into the sunlight. He breathed a sigh of relief, "I never thought I would miss the smell of fresh air."
You nodded, "come on, we have to keep moving, I have a feeling we are not out of this yet."
Bilbo nodded and followed you as you jogged towards the others. It was Fili's voice that you heard first, "she's back!" he shouted to the others.
You emerged into the clearing with Bilbo in tow. Thorin immediately ran up to you, taking your face in his hands, "are you hurt?"
You smiled, "no, I encountered no one, it was as if the cave had been abandoned."
Gandalf overheard and contemplated for a moment, "then something more dangerous is coming, Goblins do not give up on their prey so easily."
Suddenly you heard the familiar sound of a warg howl. You turned back towards the mountain and on a raised section of rock you saw them emerge. "Orcs!" Kili shouted.
"We are at the edge of the cliff face," Gandalf explained with worry.
You looked around seeing the panic on everyone's faces, "climb into the trees, quickly!" you shouted, choosing the nearest tree and climbing. Thorin, Fili, Kili and Bilbo raced to the tree behind you, climbing to the top branches.
You peeked through the branches, Thorin at your side. You assessed the orc ranks, trying to identify weaknesses when your eyes fell upon a large pale orc astride a white warg. "Thorin is that..."
Thorin's eyes filled with fear and hatred as he saw what you were talking about, "Azog."
