For weeks you remained in Erebor with your parents, wandering the halls of the mountain, touring the trade city of Dale. Basically, doing everything in your power to avoid the prince. You refused to see him, refused to speak to him, not that he ever reached out.

The only thing that stopped you from completely running away was the dark-haired dwarf, Argos, the one you met on the first day here. He quickly became your one and only friend. You were walking in the markets of Dale with Argos one day, complaining of the betrothal.

"I cannot believe my parents did this to me, brought me here with a surprise? This is a horrible surprise!" you complained, throwing your hands in the air, "I haven't seen this prince once and I am expected to marry him?"

Argos chuckled, "you hate him already."

You sighed in frustration, "I've never met him, I can't hate him, but how could I love him either?"

You shivered from the cool breeze that came from the water, Argos tightened the cloak around your shoulders as you continued on, "I am sure the prince doesn't love you either, maybe it's just as hard for him to understand."

You nodded in thanks as you continued walking, much warmer now, "then why doesn't he reach out to me? I tried, but after a few days of silence, I gave up too."

Argos nodded in understanding, "well you will have to talk to him eventually, at the wedding at the very least."

You rolled your eyes, "and there is another thing, my mother is rushing this wedding, like it's the only thing that matters to her. She won't even listen when I try to talk to her about it."

"What about your father?" Argos asked.

You shook your head, "he's constantly talking to Thrain about what it means for our kingdom, securing trade and rotations of gifts. It's like I'm just his pawn in an elaborate political game." You paused, turning to Argos, "I only have you, no one else listens."

He smiled, stopping to look you in the eyes, "you'll always have me."

You wrapped Argos in a tight embrace, thankful for his friendship. He returned it, trying to convey as much love as he could in one touch.

You walked back to the mountain with Argos before he said goodbye right before you entered, just as he always did. Upon your arrival your mother, father and Thrain were waiting for you.

You nodded slightly to Lord Thrain before speaking, "and to what do I owe the pleasure of this company?"

Your mother rolled her eyes are your mockery of politics, but Thrain didn't miss a beat, "I came to invite you to dinner tonight, I assure you that my son will be there to greet you."

"He finally wants to see me?" you asked sarcastically.

"(Y/N)," your father snapped.

Thrain held up a hand, "it's quite alright, I know my son has been absent for some time, forgive his lack of tact and sense of responsibility."

You said nothing, instead mother stepped in front of you and painted a smile on her face, "no apologies, necessary, we would love to attend dinner tonight."

Thrain nodded respectfully and walked away, mother turned on you the instant he was out of sight, "how dare you insult him that way, you should be thankful."

You rolled your eyes, "thankful that the prince finally wants to speak to me, his future bride?"

"The prince does not have to do anything," mother insisted, "you are marrying him, he holds all the power here. If you do not impress him, you could lose this opportunity."
