Rachel POV
Today was September 7. Two days after we got Dominic his guitar, but also a day before my 18th birthday. I never liked birthday parties. I felt as if they were too flashy. The only reason why I had them is because either my parents or my friends would guilt me into having one.
I remember once, when me and Dom were kids, he asked me if I was gonna have a party. I told him no and he literally screamed. Dominic has always been one to say that birthdays were important, so when he heard that I didn't want a party, he was mortified.
"Rachel Evans! Why don't you want a party?" he asked.
"Dominic, it's no big deal. I'm only turning 8." I told him, thinking he was overreacting.
"I don't really care. How are you gonna feel when you wanna look back on all the memories and realize that you never had a party?"
"Dommy, you're blowing this way out of proportion. It's just a birthday. Chill." The boy needed to calm down.
"No. You're having a party and that is final." he simply stated. We were walking home from school, so he just walked into my house. My mom was in the kitchen and noticed us walk in.
"Hey, guys! How was school?" she asked. I didn't even get to answer her question as Dominic pulled her, by the arm, to the living room. She had a confused expression, while Dominic looked like he was on a mission.
I didn't go into the living room, but I did wait in the kitchen, trying to listen to their conversation. All I heard was 'Rachel' and 'party'. I did not like where this was going.
When they were finished, they both came back into the kitchen with smile on their faces.
"GUESS WHO'S HAVING A PARTY?" My mom and Dominic shouted. Great.
"Me?" I said, hoping it wasn't the inevitable. They both nodded their heads. I hate them.
The day after that was my birthday, and I'm not gonna lie, it was pretty cool. We went to Funland and played all the games. We even went on the go karts and raced. Dominic beat me, but I still had fun. When we got all of our tickets, Dom spent all of his tickets on a teddy bear and gave it to me. It was honestly the sweetest thing anyone has given me.
"I hate to admit it, Dom, but you were right. I'm glad I had a party." I smiled at him.
He just smiled back. I was shocked to say the least. "What? No 'I told you so, Rachel?'"
He was still smiling when he said, "No. I'm just glad you had a good time."
----- back to present -----
I was getting out of the shower, as I heard a knock at the door. "Coming!" I yelled, since no one was in the house to answer it. I didn't want to irritate the person, by not answering the door, so I just I went to answer it in my towel. I swinged it open.
"Hey, is there something-," I was about to finish my sentence, when I finally looked at the person who was in front of me. And to my luck, it was Dominic. "Oh, uh. Hey, Dom." I said awkwardly.
His face was scarlet. It was pretty hilarious, but I couldn't laugh since I probably looked the same. It just had to be him.
"Oh, uh. Um," he was a stuttering mess. I let out a giggle and he glared at me. "I was just wondering if we could hang out at my place?" he asked, hopefully.
"Yeah! Sure. Just let me get changed. I'll be there in 20 minutes." I smiled at him.
"Ok. Bye, RachyBear." And without leaving before smiling back, he goes next door, into his house.
