What greater thing is there for two human souls, than to feel that they are joined for life--to strengthen each other in all labour, to rest on each other in all sorrow, to minister to each other in all pain, to be one with each other in silent unspeakable memories at the moment of the last parting?

George Eliot - Adam Bede

I wake up to the smell of freshly ground coffee and open my eyes to see a gorgeous blonde standing by my bed. "Jayje, you actually are a goddess." I said as I took one of the mugs from her hand. She slides into bed with me, careful not to spill her drink, and takes a slow, seductive sip. "So, what's the plan for today?" She asks. I can't stop staring at her lips, they're so enticing. "Oh, uh, I haven't thought about it. I-maybe... how about we go for brunch? Bacon and eggs at the place on 34th?" "I love it." She giggles and finishes her coffee. "I'll be in the shower. You can join if you want." She winks and slips out of my bedroom. I don't hesitate to follow.

The steaming water runs over her hair and drips down her back. With her lips pressed against mine, I back her up against the cool tiles and wrap my arms around her perfect body. She spins round and runs her fingers through my hair as we go under the shower. Neither of us hear the phone ring until we climb out. "Jayje, that was amazing." I said as I handed her a towel. She starts to towel dry her hair as we walk to my bedroom when she notices the red light on the landline. "Hey, Em, you got a message." "Play it." I say as I open my closet to choose an outfit. The answerphone message confuses both of us. It's just heavy breathing with no words. "What was that?" JJ asks. She stands next to me and puts her arm around my shoulder. "I have no clue, JJ. Must be some prank caller." I say, even though something starts troubling me. "You ok, babe?" "I- yeah I'm good. I'm good. Brunch still good?" "Yeah, great. But I need to get dressed first." She laughs and starts pulling clothes out from her bags.

We're about to head out when JJ's phone rings. She sighs. "Never mind, I guess brunch is cancelled." She holds her phone up. "Of course, typical." I groan and grab my go bag as we leave. "What's the case?" I ask as I drove. "I'm not sure, Garcia just said we needed to go in. Any chance of coffee first?" "You read my mind, Jayje. Coffee above everything else." I say and she laughs.

When we arrive at the BAU, Morgan wolf whistles. "Shut it." I say, grinning whilst JJ blushes pink. "Good night, ladies?" He teases. "Derek Morgan, if you much as ask a single question, I will kick your pretty little ass all the way to the jet." JJ jokes. He puts his hands up to surrender and we all start laughing. "Guys, briefing room." Hotch calls and we gather round the table. "What's the case?" "Wyoming, a serial killer killing middle class low risk women in broad daylight, but with no witnesses. With a body count up to nine already, we believe he's just started a spree, so we need to be there pronto. Briefing on the jet in 20." And just like that, we're off on another case. JJ and I sit together opposite Morgan and Rossi. I can feel their eyes on us. "Alright, Morgan, spit it ou." I roll my eyes. "Ladies, I'm not saying anything, but you two are glowing so something happened last night." "That is none of your business, Derek." "So nothing happened?" He persists. "You are like a dog with a bone, aren't you?" JJ laughs. "If you must know, I drove Emily to my favourite place in DC in the middle of the night. I was tempted to leave her there, but Hotch might have something to say about that." JJ adds. We both start laughing and Morgan gives her a playful shove. "Damn, JJ, you almost had us." She winks and I can't help but get a little turned on. "I'm good, aren't I?" I don't know if she's talking to Morgan or me. I just keep quiet. It's a long flight to Wyoming, and soon enough, most of the jet has fallen asleep. JJ and I, however, still feel refreshed after a goodnight sleep; as far as I'm aware, she didn't even have any bad dreams. My hand snakes the distance between myself and JJ and we interlock our fingers. "Hey." I whisper. "Hey there." She breathes back. Her hand is so soft and warm, I could hold on to it forever. "Man, I was looking forward to brunch." I sigh. "I know, me too. But what can you do?" "We'll just have to reschedule for when we get back." "I like the sound of that." Neither of us realise that Rossi has woken up. "Get a room, you too." He says with a chuckle.

The first day on the case goes by surprisingly quickly. Hotch seems to be wary of us, and partners me with Reid instead. Probably a good idea, I'm not sure JJ and I would be focusing on the case at all. When we drive to the hotel at night, JJ and I both have rooms on the top floor. "This was just meant to be." She giggles as we walk up the stairs together. "What are you saying?" I ask her with a smile. "Come on in, girl next door. Why be alone tonight?" She winks and pulls me into her room. As soon as the door is shut, JJ slams me into the wall and presses her lips against mine. I push back with equal force and suddenly we're fighting for dominance. Her hands swiftly unbutton my shirt and I pull off her blouse. We fall onto the bed, still attached to each other, and I run my fingers through her hair. She breaks away and climbs over me, on top. Breathing heavily, she plants kisses all over my body, heading slowly down towards my hips. She's about to take off her bra when the phone rings. "Dammit." We say together. "Hello?" She answers as she stands up. "Of course, we'll be right there." "What is it?" "Guess the killer didn't wait until the morning." She rolls her eyes and throws my clothes at me. "Get dressed, we gotta go."

I slip out of her room and straighten my hair before she follows. We meet the rest of the team in the lobby. "How many victims?" "Three women. We might be able to make an arrest, there's been a report of a home invasion nearby but they haven't left the house yet. They could still be there." "Let's go." Morgan says and we head out quickly. We drive to the address and surround the house. Turning all of the SUV lights on, Hotch uses the megaphone to talk to the unsub. We wait for movement and then there is a shower of bullets. Everyone ducks behind car doors and vehicles whilst we wait to retaliate. The unsub clearly isn't going down without a fight. I must have emptied my gun at least three times before the gunfire stops. The guy is either dead or gave up. Cautiously, we start to walk up the path to the front door when he comes charging out with a knife. We all start shooting again and he quickly falls to the floor. As he falls, I notice that his knife is stained red at the tip, but that can't be his blood. I look around for the source and see JJ holding her left arm. I immediately run to her. "Jayje, oh my goodness, you're bleeding!" "Oh it's nothing. It's just a scratch." She says. "I'm sorry, I should've covered you." I apologise. "Don't be silly, we didn't expect him to come running out with a knife like that. But I do love how caring you are. And if you really want to make it up to me..." She breaks off when Hotch walks towards us. "JJ, you should get a bandage on that. Emily, nice shot." He nods approvingly. JJ and I look at each other and try not to laugh.

On the jet, we're still trying to make sense of it. "So the unsub killed a load of women randomly to then break into someone's house which turns out to be empty?" JJ asks. "I might have insight into that." Garcia says from the screen. "I did some digging on the unsub and it turns out he was repeatedly assaulted by his stepmother when he was a child. His father didn't believe him and had him sent to a psychiatric facility. He was released three days ago and the house that he broke into was his stepmother's old house. She moved out a few months ago but he didn't know that." "Ah, that explains it. So the other kills were just out of anger then." I say. "Well, at least its over." Rossi says. "Until someone else decides they hate women." JJ adds. "Let's hope that sleep will be involved first." I joke. "Well I'm going to start now." Reid lies back in his seat. JJ and I watch him fall asleep, it's so fascinating. His head falls to one side and his breath fogs up the window. It's weird when he isn't spouting facts left right and centre. "Is your arm ok?" I ask. She's got a bandage around the top half of her left arm and it looked like it hurt. "Oh this is nothing. Remember that time when I got shot?" She's smiling but I still feel guilty. "Hey, I'm kidding." She laughs and soon I join in. Her laughter is so precious, I love listening to it. "Well, I'm still going to make it up to you. We can reschedule that brunch date for tomorrow." JJ leans in and whispers in my ear. "Or, we could stay in. Together. Just you and me." I know exactly what she means. "Yes, that sounds perfect." "It's a date."
