"No, you need to stir three times clockwise and then anticlockwise," Tom dictated from his place at the table.

Tom organised a study group for his new acquaintances; they were not friends. He would never call them friends.

Tom had decided to look into what skills the others had, just to see if any of them would be worth keeping close to himself. So far Eileen Prince seemed to be useful with her knowledge of potions and Roderick seemed to have a knack for transfiguration. Abraxas was useful with his offering of the Malfoy library and his knowledge of the wizarding world.

They were currently revising and reviewing their notes for the test Professor Slughorn had set for next week.

Tom already knew that he would come first in class. He, like Harry, could memorize pretty much anything.

Slughorn's potion classes were generally okay although he did tend to favour some students over others. It was pretty obvious which ones he took interest in; they would be invited to a dinner party every so often. Tom and Harry had gone once due to their high grades along with Eileen. The dinner party often reminded Tom of the tea parties some of the younger orphans had with their dolls and plastic tea sets.

The study session they were having right now was, so far, going well. They were all seated around one of the larger rectangular tables at the back of the library. Out of the back windows, the quidditch field could be seen with some Gryffindors playing quidditch on it. On the table there were books scattered all over from different subjects though there were no books from muggle studies as it was a subject all the Slytherins dropped after their first year. Tom and Harry had also dropped muggle studies as they already knew everything that could possibly be taught in Hogwarts. They also both dropped divination which is another subject frequently dropped in Slytherin. The reason being that it was all rubbish, Tom himself knew that he would let any tea leaves or prophecy control his decisions in the future.

Harry was seated right next to Tom at one end of the table, reading a book about how to prepare the ingredients, making notes on a piece of parchment.

...

"Watch where you're going filthy mudblood," an older Ravenclaw spat as they bumped into Tom when they were passing in the hallway. The Slytherins who were walking with him practically hissed at the Ravenclaw. The Ravenclaw quickly walked away, carrying their pile of books.

"You know," Abraxas piped up, "you could always take an inheritance test at Gringotts to see if you have any wizard blood. Then you could change your name and people will stop calling you a mudblood."

That idea spiked Tom's interest.

"And when could I get such a test?" Tom inquired.

"Well Hogwarts ends in a few days, so we could sneak into Hogsmeade before the train leaves. There's a Gringotts branch there so you and Harry can get the inheritance test," Abraxas replied.

Tom hummed, thinking about his options.

There weren't many options: take inheritance test or don't take inheritance test.

...

Abraxas smiled smugly. The idea of getting the test was planted, the roots of the idea will grow, and the stem and flower thing will bloom. Abraxas didn't know the details of how plants grew; gardening was servents work. He would never ever, ever allow a single crumb of dirt touch him. His robes were to always be clean and tidy, like the proper little pureblood he is.

His father was going to be proud; maybe his father would get him the latest broom, maybe even for the entire quidditch team. Abraxas wasn't on the quidditch team, but that would stop him from missing out on owning the latest broom. As if he would ever fly in the air on a broom, his robes always had to be neat and tidy. The wind would mess up his robes so much; not even one iron would be able to get rid of the creases. New brooms for the quidditch team would be useful; it meant that they would have a stronger chance of beating the gryffindorks.
