^A sad song: Turn to Stone by Dalton Rapattoni

...

Tom sat on the side of Harry's bed, hypnotized but the line on the EKG monitor.

It ran across the screen occasionally jumping showing a heartbeat.

He sat silently holding onto Harry's limp hand watching the line.

He ignored his useless Knights loitering around the edges of the infirmary.

He watched as the beeps on the EKG machine were gradually slowing down.

He held Harry's hand tighter.

The health ball was slowly darkening. The red becoming darker to a dark maroon colour.

Tom held him tighter.

Harry shuffled, "Tom," he whispered.

The beeps slowed further.

Tom hummed and tore his eyes away from the screen to look into the glassy green eyes.

"Tom," Harry whispered again.

Tom still held him.

"I- I love you, Tom," he said weakly.

"No, don't say that," Tom said, lacing his fingers in between Harry's. He couldn't let Harry go.

Harry smiled weakly up at Tom.

"Tom," Harry croaked, a tear dripped onto his cheek as he blinked, "I," he swallowed, "I love you..."

The muscles which held Harry's head up fell limp, and he rested on the pillow.

His eyes slowly fluttered shut.

A loud beep filled the infirmary, causing Professor Lewis to run out of his office. He ran out just in time to see the health ball turn to pitch black before vanishing into dust.

All the Knights were standing silently, eyes wide staring.

Tom held onto Harry's still warm hand.

His fingers slipped to his wrist, unable to feel a single beat.

"I'm sorry," Professor Lewis said quietly. He walked closer to where Tom was sitting and place a hand on his shoulder.

Tom jerked out of the Professor's hold. How could he imply that Harry was dead? How could he believe the noise of something muggle-made?

"No!" Tom shouted. "He's alive! He's just sleeping! Just cast a rennervate and he'll wake up! He'll wake up!"

"Tom," Professor Lewis began, "there's no point, he's-"

"Just cast the spell!" Tom shouted.

Tom felt Abraxas gently put a hand on his shoulder, gently pulling him away from Harry's side.

He wanted to jerk away from his grip as well, but before he could, Cygnus gripped on to his other arm.

"Let's go to the common room," he said.

Tom didn't want to, he wanted to stay with Harry, wait for him to wake up.

Harry always woke up.

Tom felt a tingle on his cheek, so he brought his hand up to feel what was there. His cheek was wet. Tom can't remember if he's ever cried before.

Abraxas and Cygnus dragged Tom away from the infirmary leaving behind Harry and a diary full of empty pages.

Tom numbly walked to his dorm room. He saw two books stacked neatly on his bed. Tom threw them to the floor before collapsing forwards onto his bed.

I love you, Tom

He could still hear Harry say.

I love you, Tom

The voice echoed in his head.

I love you

The voice wasn't real, Tom told himself.

I love you

Harry wasn't here.

Love you

Harry was gone.

Love you

Forever.

Love you

"I love you too!" Tom screamed into his pillow.
