As expected, when Tom received his textbook list for Hogwarts,  there was the prefect badge included.

This year when they went to Diagon Ally to buy their school books, they bought brand new ones. No more second hand for them. The one thousand galleon prize money was very appreciated. They spent about one hundred and fifty galleons. The rest Tom spent buying shares for Gringotts bank and investing in various companies. The easiest way of getting money without having to actually too much work, Tom thought.

On the train, Harry went to sit with all the other Kights while Tom and Abraxas, the other fifth year prefect, went to sit in the prefects' compartment, where they would receive a talk about their new duties.

When they arrived at Hogwarts, Dippet gave his usual speech and started the usual welcome feast.

...

It was the first night Tom had his prefect duties and he was out of the common room for some time.

There were three shifts for the prefects. The fifth years would take the first one, the sixth years would take the second and the seventh take the third. Tom, being in fifth year, would take the first shift and be back by ten o'clock.

Harry was sitting in bed, wearing his pyjamas and reading a book. He waited while the others went to sleep, for Tom to come back.

Tom came back with Abraxas just after ten and saw Harry sitting in his bed.

Harry looked up from his book when he heard the door open.

"How was your first day of prefect duties?" Harry asked with a smile.

Tom walked over to Harry's bed and climbed onto it, smiling when Harry reached his arms up. He looped them around Tom's neck and pulled him down for a kiss.

Abraxas turned around to face his bed. He wrinkled his nose. He did not need to see this. What he did need though, was his beauty sleep. He quickly went to the bathroom and changed into his silver silk pyjamas and brushed his teeth. He slipped under the covers and reached over to his bedside table to get his silk sleep mask and earplugs.

Tom kissed Harry again, and then again, and then again.

Harry blushed.

Tom liked that.

He cuddled up next to Harry and turned the lights off wandlessly.

"Love you Tom."

...

Things went like that for quite a while, Tom going out of prefect duties and coming back to find Harry reading a book waiting for him, until about halfway through the year when Dumbledore was ready. He just needed time alone with the Peverell boy.

...

Today in transfiguration they were changing inanimate objects into animate objects. This lesson was changing blocks of wood into squirrels.

Dumbledore, as usual, was focusing only on the Gryffindors, helping them improve and totally ignoring the Slytherins.

Tom was the first one to cast the spell correctly changing his block of wood into a squirrel.

The squirrel scampered around on his desk before Tom partially transfigured the squirrel back into wood.

He smiled when the squirrel turned to wood yet kept its shape. The wooden squirrel was frozen with an arm stretched out in front of it, trying to move.

Dumbledore, as usual, wasn't watching a thing Tom did.

Harry also transfigured the block of wood into a squirrel, only instead of turning it back like Tom, he patted it on its head. The squirrel twitched its tail and froze for a moment before head butting Harry's hand, encouraging to bet him more.
