Alexa stalked out of the school building for the last time, quietly triumphant. She was confident she'd managed to pass most subjects, Diana had tutored her hard for the last couple of weeks, in that way she really reminded her of D, a font of knowledge with an uncanny understanding of every subject... Except for history, she jumbled her facts around frequently. D never rattled on about going to lessons and exams like Diana does, but he was always there for her, to teach her about anything she could think to ask and much more. While he was homeschooling her he hadn't tested her knowledge or comprehension, he had put his trust in her that she would ask if she was confused about anything. Even when she asked about 'where do babies come from?' it wasn't awkward like the media had said, D had told her the truth there and then. There was nothing he didn't know or wasn't willing to research. She daydreamed fondly over her childhood as she rode home on her new Lexmoto Hunter, a black and anti-shine stealth customised 50cc motorbike, Paul had unexpectedly been happy to replace her little moped with. A legal upgrade even. She mused on the vampire. He'd stopped hanging around the house as often, which was a good thing, but it was still like he was living there. He just had things to do during the days and nights, and a way to get there and back. Considering the amount that Alexa knew about his version of vampirism he could be flying for all she knew, which was a terrifying thought. She'd never seen him fly, so he couldn't fly! When Alexa removed her slick black helmet in the barn, she wasn't surprised to find all sent of the annoying blond gone. "Ahh, some peace." She inhaled deeply and was going to take her sweet time making a light dinner.Diana crossed the dining room purposefully towards the smiling amateur chef. "Alexa we have a problem." She announced sternly, she had the hunter's complete attention, "There is an extremely bold vampire sauntering about and killing people willy nilly." "Wasn't sunset only half an hour ago?" Alexa questioned as she hurriedly ate a single spoonful of chile de tres frijoles. "Yes, and it's scary how she's killed so many, she's in the South of Otters Bottom." As soon as Diana imparted the information she watched her beautifully deadly daughter speed out. Why did she think it was a good idea to train her, she could have fulfilled her non-destiny with just her mental capacity, that's what she does. "Gahh." She sped up to her observation den, never had she found the change to make her rethink her previous body's actions so much, how he had blindly obeyed the instructions about how to raise his child. He could have done something to protect her! Sitting in front of her multiple monitors, Diana plugged in happily, ready to observe the world and protect her daughter from afar. Over the last month or so she had come to realise that glasses made her world a little clearer, and slid her horn-rimmed pair onto the bridge of her nose, popped on her headset, and clicked the call button in the corner of her screen. She connected, "Alexa are you there yet?" She spoke clearly into her mic. "Still en route, has she hurt anyone else yet?" Alexa spoke loud and clearly over the wind attempting to sweep her off the winding country road. "Not yet." Diana focused on the single CCTV camera she had hacked to show her an infrared image, "The female looks as if she's stopped to do a social media post." "Really, but she can't be seen in a photo?""I know, she's not photographing herself, it's of her kill..." She noted, her own mobile phone starting to buzz, 'Paul' was trying to call her for some reason, she was already on a life or death mission, his mid-centennial crisis would have to wait. Diana cross-checked the location of the surveillance camera "The vampiress is on the park side of Eastford road, east of the fore street. She's starting to contort the bodies into a comical position, and taking another photo! Alexa be careful it's fairly likely she is mentally unstable." "Okay I've parked up, do you have a visual description?"Diana had already studded the heated outline of the body carefully, in preparation for this question "5'8" long straight hair, slim curvy build.""Thanks, did D leave any instructions on how to see about colour details?""No, but you can't miss her, she's sitting on the bodies now! And back on her phone again! Since when did the undead get so brazen?""There's always been a few theatrical types." The central monitor showed Alexa's heated form dash in, "Pink hair?!" was the last thing she heard from Alexa before the noises of the two women exchanging blows took over her headset. She turned to her other monitor. "Anything else identifying?" She typed in 'pink hair' to her search engine, and poised to add more terms. "She looks familiar. Ouch!""Alexa, are you okay?""Red eyes!" Alexa shouted, and then the line cut off. Diana watched the battle taking place on the screen for a desperate moment, is this vampire too much for her daughter? She'd forced her to focus on her studies so much she couldn't have trained much in the last month. Does Alexa need her help? Could she get there in time? Would she have to use her ship?Alexa remounted her little metallic black beast, she knew Diana had tweaked it so maybe she could push it further, faster, she could defiantly out-manoeuvre any police that bothered to troll down her country lanes... Why would a vampire go on a killing spree here, had something happened, had Paul finally got bored of staying with them and decided to create some new amusement, she wouldn't be surprised. She had started to like having the bloodsucker around a little, he was like everyone's kinda idiotic little brother, he was almost as strong as her so had become a perfect sparing partner. Hopefully, he hadn't learnt too much about her fighting techniques if she would have to end him that night, after clearing up this mess. Or had something local drawn the monster near? There were always areas with deep history among the strange little villages or hamlets around the country, magic had been infused whenever someone had done any sort of ritual. Only a few vampires, but enough, had the skill to gain new powers from them. A few years ago her and D had come across an area full of small purpose-placed stones, by a roadside on the north coast of France, in the search of a vampire that had been rumoured to breathe fire. And completely catching them off guard, it had! The only way to disable its additional powers was to take one of the stones from the arrangement and carry it off the continent. It was a rare occurrence and should have opened their minds to the magnitude of mystical enhancements that they could encounter in the future, but when she started to think about that she started to get lost. Lost in the ideas of the ways they would try to kill her, D and herself had decided to focus on what they knew to be possible and real because beyond instinct and problem-solving Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had a point: 'Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.' When she found this social media-obsessed vampire, she would find the truth. She zipped past the 'Welcome to Otters Bottom' sign, finally on a quiet residential tarmac. She thanked that D had briefed Diana enough about their lives to be able to help her hunt down vampires. It was a little novel that it was almost the same as having D walking her through everything, just with a female voice, but he had just been on the cusp of developing a piece of software that would help them save so many more lives, viewing vampires by their cooler than living human temperature. "Thanks, did D leave any instructions on how to see about colour details?" Alexa asked Diana as she dismounted her bike, racing with her supernatural speed towards the location Diana had mentioned and tapped on her smartwatch. She didn't like the constant tech but acknowledged there were benefits, and it wasn't like anyone would hack their software and track her. "Pink hair?!" Alexa couldn't stop herself from exclaiming as she came upon the creature drenched in blood. The pinkett vampire rose from her seated position gracefully. Smiling from ear to ear, fangs protruding at every angle, blood drenching her lips and dripping down her chin. Alexa spared a minute glance at the mangled bodies, they were beyond her help. Her assessment reached just in time for her to duck from the bloodsucker's charge. She barely missed the monster's claws in its first move. The window where Alexa cared for the innocents was over, and the vile thing had her full attention. It turned back to her, glowing red eyes boring into her skull, taking another swipe at her. Alexa countered by taking up her hardwood-edged combat dagger from its ankle sheath and slicing off the first finger of the claws coming towards her. She screeched in like a banshee, the blood of her last victim mixing with her saliva and spraying at Alexa, as the demoness followed through with a head butt into her own. Catching Alexa unawares. This was an onslaught, she had to meet her with pure offence or get enough distance to use her gun. She caught the vampire under the chin with her elbow, forcing the fanged mouth closed and flying up to the sky. The creature caught herself, latching onto a metal fence and pivoting heeled feet first stabbing Alexa in the stomach. Alexa almost keeled over, but didn't have time, and threw herself and the beast over the fence piercing its heart with one of the metal prongs. It flailed. Alexa clutched her gut, took out her gun and released a barrage of bullets, the first into the screeching head, the others into its heart. It stopped flailing but didn't disappear into ash. "No, no, no!" She cried, grasping at her gaping wound. What else could she do to kill it? She stumbled forward, reaching with the arm not forcing her guts to stay put, folding over the protruding fence prong, then a couple surrounding for good measure. She had to concentrate on calling for help and healing, her body usually worked with her, and she's managed to heal most of her previous shoulder wound with sheer force of will. Well, she needed that again! Diana better have a good idea of how to dispatch the beast, the world was going black. No, that was a black hybrid sports car turning up, and Paul flowing out of it. "Alexa I tried to call! Get in!" He called to her and tried to offer her a hand. "Was this your doing?" Alexa questioned willing herself to stand, for just a moment longer. If she admitted how truly weak she was in that moment would he take the opportunity? "Not exactly..." He admitted through a wince."What do you mean, do you know what that thing is?" Alexa hissed, pointing at her opponent with her own blood-covered hand. He grabbed her by the shoulders shaking her "Just get in, I'll explain, at home." He pleaded, easily dodging the fist coming towards his face "No, how do I kill it?" Alexa fumed, very tempted to serve him a low kick. "Look if you couldn't kill me you can't kill her." He locked eyes with her stubborn glare. Flicking his eyes to her wound, "Live to fight another day at least!" Alexa followed his gaze, he couldn't feel her flesh knitting together as they spoke, but still, Diana would have an idea, and Paul had vital information. "Where did you get the car from?" Alexa glared at him from the passenger seat, he better not crash again, because that would be the last straw, she would rip his head off with her bare hands. "Does it matter?" Paul replied passively, streaking through the roads, focused. "Yes, who did you kill to get it?" She also didn't appreciate him acting so much like an adult. "It's the same story, I'll tell you both when we get in." He stated then remained silent for the rest of the short journey as if something else was on his mind.
