Alexa was seated at her dining table, with her friends on Christmas Eve.

There was a full delicious spread of every dish and accoutrement you could wish for before her. Even if you were a vegetarian werewolf with incredibly sensitive tastebuds, which she was.

She was falling into the story, the pieces mostly slotted together in a logical fashion even if they were insane ideas. Aliens... Her father had been an alien and then used science to change his age and gender without telling her... Okay, time to plow forward.

"As I understand you don't know how the fire my parents died in started, yet you have a time-travelling spaceship and are an alien that Paul called to come and save/abduct baby me?"

"And myself and Paul can't go back there, yes." Diana nodded, smiling at her just the way her father used to.

"So we can go anywhere but there?"

"Uh huh, honey. We can go anywhere in the universe?"

"Can we go to the origin of vampires and stop them from starting to prey on the human race?" Alexa's vampire hunter training always prevailed when she was unsure what to do emotionally.

"Oh, no, erm, that was also part of the loop. I'm so sorry. Apparently, I've been telling you all these years that there's a finite truth about vampires has been the biggest story I have ever told, and since I was new to this planet I didn't know."

"When did you find this out?"

"The same time as the loop, please don't look at me like that!"

"So then all I have done has been for nothing? I don't have a destiny."

"Yes, no, who knows? But all I know is I will make it up to you. You are my daughter and I would give the universe to make you happy."

"I don't need it. I don't deserve to be happy. Sarah, I think you may have been right all those months ago... I really am a murderer." Alexa turned to her ethereal friend who had accused her of murder when she had first caught her staking a vampire. She could feel wetness in the corners of her eyes. Her life had been a lie, a joke, and the joke was on her. She was not the hero she thought she had to be, she had been told to target vampires by an alien. What was she? She couldn't look Sarah in the eye anymore, she couldn't look at any of them.

"Never think like that, you've saved thousands of lives! You may not have been created by a god to be the one girl who can save this planet, but you have saved so many earthlings from the bloodsuckers!" Diana had stepped up, crossed the room, and cupped Alexa's face with her hands. She was trying to comfort her like she did as D when she was a small child but it didn't feel the same. The blonde's last attempt was a light kiss on her forehead. "No offence Paul," Diana called over her shoulder.

"None taken." Paul rolled off flippantly.

Tristan squeezed her hand and brought it to his lips, "Not one of us here thinks you're anything bad, you're at the beginning of your life. How many vampires do you think I've taken down? How many criminals have I put away? Even if it's not your destiny, you are a hero pup." He kissed the hardness of tiny scars that only he could feel, there was a mass of scar tissue under so much of her flawless skin.

"Alex you totally are!"

"And a hero deserves a vacation?" Paul did not read the room well, his fang-filled smile was boyish. Tristan didn't like it.

"Paul!" Diana shouted at the vampire and sailed back towards him. But she was only half glaring as she sat, she was trying to hide a smile at his antics.

"That's where you were going, wasn't it? We've all been lied to and need you to make it up to us." Paul insinuated.

Alexa opened her eyes, Paul's antics were always something to watch out for, and then it dawned on her. Paul was teasing someone, Diana was telling someone off, Bahman was far too excited, Sarah was smiling at her, and Tristan was holding her. What she thought of herself, didn't seem to matter to them, they were there and everything was normal.

She didn't trust their collective definition of a 'Hero' if they were really calling her that but, they believed in her. And if there was anything she believed in more than her role as a vampire hunter, it was the importance of a good meal. "Well if it's up to me, I'd like to eat." She picked up an intimidatingly large carving knife swiping it at the vampire, allowing her stomach to rumble and take its familiar control of the situation.

She may have no clue who she is, and how to move forward, but she knew the people that sat around her were like family. A group that actually seemed to like her for all her snark and violent tendencies, and a group that she would protect even, if it was from harming everyone else. The whole time travel thing was a bit far-fetched but where would she even decide to go right now? She was exactly where she wanted to be.

The End.

Darkness.

"She could have just staked me! This is so fucking unfair, I think I hate her. When I see that bloody beautiful alien again I am going to rip her head off and serve it to my sister, blinking and all. Freak 'em both out!"

"Paul?" Alexa opened her eyes, to glare at the vampire that had woken her up.

"Your fucking female father stuck us in the past! Again!"

To be continued...
