I really need to talk about this. I've noticed a lot of people in the Hamilton fandom blame Alexander for Philip's death. I'm telling you why that's wrong. First off, what Eacker said had nothing to do with the affair or Reynolds Pamphlet. He said that Hamilton would not be opposed to overthrowing Jefferson's presidency by force. Aiming at the sky was a common practice for dueling, and like a final attempt to make peace. Philip was 19, he was old enough to know what he was doing. He couldn't have backed out of the duel, or he would've been labeled as a coward, and bring dishonor to the family name. Another thing, it was not only Eliza's loss, and some people act like she was the only parent that suffered. At Philip's funeral, Alexander had to be held up by 2 or 3 people
so he wouldn't collapse. He also grieved a lot and blamed himself. Blaming him for Philip's death is really unfair and messed up.
