"The first years, Professor McGonagall." Hagrid says.

"Thank you, Hagrid. Follow me." The stern woman, Professor McGonagall, says before leading us into a side room. "The sorting will take place shortly. I recommend you take this time to smarten yourselves up." She says, eyeing the dirt on Ron's nose and Neville's crooked robes.

Everything is fine until the ghosts appear.

"Oh! First years I take it. I hope to see you in my house." One says before floating off. My brother looks after it in shock.

"This is our life now." I say, putting my arm around him. Before he can respond McGonagall returns.

"We're ready for you now." She says before leading us inside. I walk next to Harry up to the front of the Great Hall towards a long table holding different professors. McGonagall has us stop at the steps, in front of a stool with a tattered hat resting on it.

"When I call your name I will place the hat on your head and it will sort your into your houses. Abbott, Hannah!" McGonagall calls out. A blonde girl makes her way out of the crowd and to the front. She sits on the stool, the hat is placed on her head, and then-

"HUFFLEPUFF!" The hat calls out. The table to my left starts cheering as Hannah's tie turns yellow and black and her Hogwarts emblem is turned into one with black, gold, and a badger.

Several more students are sorted before McGonagall calls Talia's name.

"Fletcher, Talia." McGonagall calls. The hat barely touches her head before it deems her a Hufflepuff.

It takes quiet a while before McGonagall gets to the 'P's.

"Potter, Harry." She calls. I let my brother's hand go and look at him just to see he looks like he's going to be sick but is trying to hide it. He sits on the stool, the hat is put on his head, and...nothing. I look at Ron questioningly and he shrugs. It's not for another five minutes before the hat speaks.

"GRYFFINDOR!" It says. Just like mom and dad. Everyone is applauding and standing for a look at Harry but none more than the other Gryffindors, and the Weasley twins aren't helping with the noise level.

"WE GOT POTTER! WE GOT POTTER!" They call out to the Great Hall. Under McGonagall's glare the students quite so the sorting can continue.

"Potter, Mya." McGonagall calls out and the whispers start up again. I make my way to the front and sit on the stool. The hat is put on my head and I can no longer see anything. I also can't help but hope I don't get lice what with all the heads this things has been on. That earns me a laugh in my ear.

Quite a distracted mind you have, my dear.

Um...thanks? I think?

You are also very creative, loyal, cunning, and brave with a desire to fit in while simultaneously making your name mean something. So where to put you? I know. HUFFLEPUFF!

The hat screams that last word out to the whole Great Hall. I take the hat off and go to Talia's side, the seat right behind Harry. He turns and smiles at me.

"WE GOT POTTER! WE GOT POTTER!" Someone down the table is calls loudly, glaring at the twins.

"Our life." Harry says. I nod and turn back to my new table.

We wait out the rest of the students to be sorted before the plates fill up with food. There's very little talk at first but eventually we all begin introducing ourselves.

"I'm Susan Bones." A girl with red hair says.

"A fellow ginger." I say happily to her.

"I think the Weasleys would have kept us company." She says and I chuckle.

"Very true." I agree. I make decent conversation with Hannah Abbott as well, but there are two boys in our year, Jacob Mills and Brooks Tellkin, that are determined to challenge me. Jacob has a resting bitch face while his smile makes you want to hold onto your possessions tightly. Brooks looks like a typical skater boy in robes and a tie. I love it.
