I'm relaxing in the court yard with my friends when Harry comes up to me looking terrified.
"Hey, are you okay?" I ask, worried.
"Can we talk?" He asks. I immediately stand and walk off to the side with him. "Dragons."
"Come again."
"The first task is dragons. Hagrid showed them to me. They've got one for each of you." He says.
"Well...this isn't going to be fun. Have you warned Cedric?"
"He's my next stop. Mya-"
"Hey, I'll figure it out, don't worry."
"You're going to face a dragon and you tell me not to worry."
"You told me not to worry about the Basilisk. Given it was after the fact, but still." I say with a shrug. He hugs me and just holds me for a while. "I'll figure it out."
"You and your minions of darkness." He says and I laugh.
"That's one way to describe us."
My 'minions of darkness' are as shocked by the first task as I am, so it's a little hard to get their help. Besides I'm technically supposed to do this without help.
A week later Professor Sprout leads Cedric and me to the champions' tent and leaves us to go help corral the students into the arena. I look at Krum and Fleur and rub my face. None of us look calm. We all look nervous. Fleur manages to somehow make it work, though. She's in a light blue fighting outfit with her hair up in a high pony tail. Krum's in a black fighting outfit with the Durmstrang crest on his chest. What did they give Cedric and me? Our Quidditch uniforms, minus the robes; Cedric's a Seeker and I'm a Keeper, we don't get padding like Beaters and Chasers do. So we're both dress in yellow and black with our names on the back. I have the front of my red hair braided back while my irritatingly attractive boyfriend is fine with his tousled hair look. Of course then there's the man-child in his old Quidditch robes that don't even fit him anymore.
"Mya! Good-o!" Bagman says once the two of us arrive. "Come in and make yourself at home!"
Um...there are two of us.
"Well, now that we're all here-time to fill you in! When the audience has assembled, I'm going to be offering each of you this bag from which you will each select a small model of the thing you are about to face! There are different-er-varieties, you see. And I have to tell you something else too...ah, yes...your task is to collect the golden egg!"
We have to get a golden egg away from a dragon? Are you fucking kidding me?
I nod once, keeping a straight face, and then continue my pacing. Krum and Fleur hadn't reacted at all. All of us too nervous to speak. Too soon Dumbledore, Madame Maxine, Karkaroff, and-surprisingly-McGonagall enter the tent. Karkaroff goes to stand behind Krum, as Maxine does to Fleur, Dumbledore stands next to Cedric-as I'd assumed he would-and McGonagall comes next to me. I give her a weak smile before turning forward again.
"Ladies first." Bagman says, opening the bag and opening it for Fleur. She reaches in and pulls out a mini-dragon, a Welsh Green, with a number 2 around its neck. Fuck me, that's the calmest of the species.
Bagman then turns the open bag to me. I reach in and pull out the first mini-reptilian I touch. A Hungarian Horntail, one of the most dangerous dragons around. And because my luck is so fantastic it has a four around its neck...grand. I just nod again and look at the dragon in my hand. I have to resist the urge to throw it across the room.
