[observation]

The trio of boys stood outside of Jenos house, waiting for someone to get the door. Chenle hit the doorbell again, annoyed they were out in the cold.
"Can't we just like...break in?" Haechan asked. Chenle tilted his head, considering it. They both looked to Jisung.
"I'm an asshole, not a criminal." He crossed his arms, cold and offended they would assume he knew how to break into things. Haechan called Jeno a few times until he came and answered the door. Jisung made a face.
"Hello! We're here to help." Chenle said.
"With what? Why are you here?" Jeno drug his hands down his face, exhausted. He hadn't slept properly the past few days.
"We're gonna find our friends." Haechan smiled at him.
"Your hair." Jisung said.
"What about my hair, asshole?"
"Did you dye it back? It was only a day." He tilted his head and thought really hard.
"Jisung what are you talking about?" Haechan furrowed his brows as he stepped inside, prompting the other two to follow.
"When I saw you the other day?"
"I haven't left the house in six days." Jeno sat on the couch and crossed his arms.
"That's impossible, I saw you the day before yesterday." Jisung took off his coat and held it in his arms. "We had a whole conversation."
"I haven't left the house in six days." He repeated, glaring at him. The other two listened in, confused.
"Okay well, two days ago, at the bookstore like twenty minutes away, I saw you" he pointed, "in the bookstore. You were buying board games and books, remember?"
"I don't really like board games."
"We had a bad game of monopoly and he hasn't touched a board game since." Haechan added.
"I..." Jisung furrowed his brow, trying to connect the dots. "You were there! I was buying a gift and you were buying games! We made up and talked it out, Jeno. Why are you pretending like it didn't happen?"
"Because it didn't." Jeno sat up. He didn't want to be bothered right now, especially not with Jisung.
"But it did! And you were blonde!"
"I'm clearly not blonde." Jeno made a face.
"That's why I asked if you had dyed it back." Jisung crossed his arms.
"I didn't dye my hair, Renjun and Jaemin are still missing and I'm still blocked."
"I'm so confused." Jisung put his hands over his face and thought real hard. Nothing was making sense.
"Just drop it, we'll come back to that later." Haechan suggested. "What we came here for in the first place was snooping. I know your parents are real secretive about their work but there's no way they don't have at least an idea of what happened to them."
"I can't do that."
"That's why we're here." Chenle smiled. "You don't have to do anything you're not comfortable with."
"I...I don't like this but I'll allow it. As long as this isn't a dead end y'know?" He stood up and the others followed him to his parents office.

"Do you have proof you were home then? I went around three o'clock." Jeno sighed as Jisung brought it up again.
"Quit asking!"
"This is important, Jeno!" He put his hands on his hips.
"Fine! I think I was on the phone with Haechan. That doesn't prove I was at home but that's what I was doing at three."
"I have proof! You looked silly so I took a screenshot." Haechan pulled out his phone and opened up his photos. Sure enough there was a goofy picture of Jeno with the time and date.
"That means that it literally could not have been him you saw at the store, Ji." Chenle said, flipping through a book.
"Then who did I talk to?" Jisung put a hand to his chin as he thought.
"I don't know but it wasn't me." Jeno logged into the computer and tried navigating the wasteland of files that was his dad's desktop.
"I've got it!" He startled the group as he clapped, finally connecting the dots "what if, yeah? What if your parents made a robot you?" He felt like a genius until the others gave him questionable looks. "What? I think it's a solid theory."
"It's more likely that you just ran into someone that looked like him with blonde hair."
"I'm going with my idea. Y'know what they say about uncanny valley? I had that type of feeling when I was talking to him." Jisung nodded, proud of himself and sure of his answer.
"Did you find anything yet?" Chenle asked.
"No. There's a ton of folders with other folders stuffed inside. This might not lead to anywhere. And it's not like the folders have names, they're just numbers or a random sequence of letters. Look, 10 5 14 15? 8 18 10? Like, what does that even mean?"
"Weird. Ji, come look at the basement with me." Chenle waved him out of the room and left the other two to sort through files.
